Company DescriptionWe have an exciting position for a Manager Project Services to establish and manage the Project Controls functions, systems and procedures to assure the definition of schedules, budgets and forecast costs for effective project management. Project Controls duties include:

In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.Guided by our purpose and our values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to re-imagine mining to improve people's lives", delivering the metals and minerals that make modern life possible.As Manager Project Services you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Act as First Point of Contact for Kumba Projects' Controls team and provide coordination with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day technical direction to Project Controls Teams and Study/Project Managers, mainly focused on studies and projects.
  • Evaluate technical and resource requirements of Project Controls for the studies/projects.
  • Ensure implementation of AA Project Controls Standards and Guidelines.
  • Coordinate with HR and SCM/Project Commercial to source Project Controls personnel for Studies & Projects
  • Assist in preparation of Investment Proposals for projects approval.
  • Management and alignment of the roles and responsibilities within the project controls team with key stakeholders to ensure effective project controls viz. cost management, schedule management, and document management.
  • Delivery of consolidated portfolio management information, ensuring that the Project Controls team produce monthly reports providing details on progress actuals, forecast and explanation of variances for cost and schedule.
  • Review of all Project Controls information to ensure accuracy as well as identifying issues, concerns and suggest potential mitigations.
  • Develop and implement effective Project Controls to ensure that reporting standards are constantly achieved. This includes the compilation and audit of policies, processes, procedures, and standards for all Project Controls functions. Establishment of required tools and techniques to ensure ongoing data integrity (auditability) and alignment.
  • Oversee project baselining process for cost and schedules and ensure that all project systems are implemented according to company processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage the change management process; suggest and communicate corrective actions.
  • Review of project cost estimates as well as Procurement and Contract Management plans.
  • Oversee control and reporting of OPEX funds for all Kumba projects during the study phases. This includes interaction and negotiations with Operations and Head Office finance managers.
  • Overseeing the control and reporting of Operational Cost budgets. Management of the department's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control.
  • Effective leadership and management of a cross-functional team to deliver the project against objectives as defined in the project charter and in line with the Anglo American values.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the various technical and project management fields to ensure continuous improvement, deriving efficiencies and cost savings
  • Managing internal and external relations, including the interface with service providers, as well as other functions responsible for ensuring that business needs are met
  • Encouraging and leading teams in accordance with Kumba values and strategic objectives
  • Effective safety leadership and behaviour modelling for the Project Controls team. Promoting and supporting high levels of compliance towards Health, Safety, Environmental and Social Performance standards of Kumba.
This role is in Kumba Projects at a Band 5 level reporting to Principal Project Controls & Reviews.Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline.
  • A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
  • SA Drivers Licence
Experience
  • 8 to 10 years' experience in a similar role within mining sector.
  • Recognized as a thought leader and external expert in applying integrated policies and practices across all Project Control disciplines, including Estimation, Planning/Scheduling/Progressing, and Cost Control.
  • Track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery in Project Controls (Estimating, Planning/Scheduling/Progressing, and Cost Control) practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of in Project Controls Excellence (Estimating, Planning/ Scheduling / Progressing, and Cost Control) over the complete project life cycle.
  • Significant local knowledge of the local/regional engineering and construction markets, companies, and methods of doing business.
  • Ability to understand detail, transactional workflows/issues and communicate solutions to senior management in a summarized manner.
  • Solve technical and operational issues in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. Implements the most effective solutions to drive efficiencies.
  • Optimises productivity and quality targets by utilising deep technical expertise and cooperating with multi-disciplinary teams to highlight and address areas of improvement
  • Manages, monitors and drives controls deliverables within the project portfolio. Proactively escalates risks and proposes mitigating actions.
  • Successfully extend concepts, skills and developed practices in order to contribute to the improvement of project controls practices across Kumba projects.
