Main purpose

To manage the editorial and production processes for Mathematics products across African languages, ensuring linguistic accuracy, mathematical integrity, and timely delivery of high-quality print and digital materials aligned to the curriculum. This includes overseeing editorial quality, localization efforts, and maintaining consistency across multiple languages and grade levels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Editorial Project Management

Lead the editorial workflow of mathematics projects across African languages from manuscript to final product (print and digital). Ensure editorial quality by applying proofreading, copy-editing, and typesetting standards in all language versions. Maintain alignment with MML's editorial policy, the Mathematics register, and curriculum requirements.

Language and Mathematics Localisation

Coordinate the localisation (not direct translation) of mathematics content in all official languages, ensuring clarity and curriculum alignment. Collaborate with language experts to maintain consistency in maths terminology and instructional language. Conduct or facilitate editorial training sessions for African language SMEs, authors, and reviewers.

Stakeholder Management

Work closely with Publishers, Language Specialists, and Product Coordinators to manage timelines and content requirements. Engage with external freelancers (editors, typesetters, proofreaders) to ensure high-quality outputs. Provide editorial leadership and problem-solving for issues related to language, content clarity, and layout.

Quality Assurance and Content Review

Implement a rigorous editorial and mathematics QA process, including maths checks, language reviews, and inclusivity audits. Conduct final product checks before signoff of products, ensuring adherence to specifications. Support the development and maintenance of internal tools like editorial checklists and style guides tailored for multilingual mathematics products.

Workflow and Reporting

Maintain and update WIP trackers for each language and phase. Provide regular status updates to the Publishing Lead and escalate risks or bottlenecks proactively. Monitor project budgets in collaboration with Content Developers.

Educational Requirements

Tertiary qualification in Mathematics Education, Publishing, or African Languages.

Experience Requirements

At least 3 years' experience in educational publishing or editorial management. Experience working on multilingual educational content, particularly in Mathematics. Strong understanding of the Curriculum and language policy in education.
