REPORTING TO: SKIPPERPURPOSE: Responsible for activities onboard a fishing trawler involving keeping navigational watch, fishing,
safety, quality, and people management.OUTPUTS AND MEASUREMENTS:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Safety of vessel and crew
Compliance with safe manning requirements.
Compliance with all SAMSA, Class regulations and Maritime OSH
requirements.
Safety of Navigation
Compliance with Company Watch Keeping procedures.
Completion of logbooks.
Legislative Requirements
Compliance with required legislation
Housekeeping / Hygiene / Quality
Ensure vessel is always maintained in a clean state.
Ensure that hygiene requirements are strictly adhered to.
Ensure that defined quality standards are met for all product caught.
Fishing Gear Operations & Targets
Ensure care & maintenance of fishing gear & associated equipment.
Ensure that due care is practiced when fishing on hazardous fishing grounds
Ensure that fishing targets as defined are met.
HR Functions
Ensure that discipline is always maintained
Foster & promote a harmonious working environment
Transfer of Skills
Ensure that all officers and managers onboard train & mentor the transfer of
skills to the further development of all onboard the vessel.REQUIRMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
Relevant certificate of competency (CoC)
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to teach, mentor and motivate.
Positive attitude and problem solving.
