Job Description

Mechanical fitters provide detailed inspections, troubleshooting, oversight, and diagnosis of operational problems in plant and distribution systems including boilers and piping systems including expansion joints, valves, supports, and anchors. This job is about fitting and assembling metal parts to fabricate production machines and other equipment. They use a range of tools and engineering techniques to maintain and repair mechanical plant machinery and equipment to operational standards.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Carry out planned maintenance to ensure efficient and effective repair of all plant and machinery to the required standards and quality. Identify critical spares required for plant machinery Ensure that machinery/equipment has been maintained is returned to production free from defects and does not impact production. Attend to all breakdowns, conduct repairs that are of a permanent nature and return the machine to its full capability. Ensure scheduled planned maintenance is carried out timeously Assist in commissioning of new equipment/machinery as and when required. Carry out improvements or modifications of plant machinery Ensure timeous submission of all timesheets and sign off completed job requests Contribute to and establish a culture of continuous improvement by initiating and implementing ideas that will enhance the performance by using breakdown maintenance job cards to improve overall performance of the plant and prevent breakdowns Ensure that safety and housekeeping standard are maintained Interpret mechnical drawings and specifications to distinguish suitable materials, method, and machine settings to complete works effectively Produce finished machines and equipment by fitting/assembling metal parts Using an array of processes (pressing, cutting, grinding) form metal material and casts to fine tolerances Hydraulic/pneumatic pipe and line maintenance, including threading, bending, cutting processes Perform diagnosis, fault finding activates and performance on a variety of different machinery

Qualifications:

Trade tested artisan with Mechanical Engineering qualifications Minimum 5 years' experience in a Mechanical Maintenance role Experience in Hydraulic Press, Hydraulic Circuit Diagram interpretation and Hydraulic System fault finding Understanding of various component manufacturing equipment and machinery Experience in carrying out mechanical maintenance on plant machinery Electrical knowledge is advantageous Computer literacy in MS Office
