Mechanical Plant Engineer - Rainbow Chicken - WorcesterFull job descriptionRAINBOW Chicken is seeking a Mechanical Plant Engineer to manage daily maintenance at their Worcester Processing plant, supported by Shift Fitters and Artisans. The ideal candidate should be logical, solutions-oriented, and efficient.Minimum RequirementsA completed Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical EngineeringGCC Factories qualification would be advantageous.Minimum of 8 yearsxe2x80x99 trade experience in a similar environment of which at least 5 years was in a management category.Knowledge and SkillsA Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with 8 years of trade experience of which least 5 years in a supervisory category.GCC factories xe2x80x93 beneficial.Excellent understanding of mechanical engineering practices.Exchange information in a clear and concise manner (both written and verbal) to Management and subordinates.Work flexible hours and some weekends as required.Excellent leadership skills.Thorough understanding of the Labor Relations Act.Constantly looking and finding ways to improve plant efficiency and effectiveness.Regularly reviews and monitor progress, taking action to rigorous and sound information research.Dedication and loyalty to the company.Duties & Responsibilities:Operational Engineering ManagementDrive the daily / weekly maintenance planning process for the plant xe2x80x93 Prioritizing, scheduling and allocation of tasks to different disciplines of the engineering department, with the assistance of the planner.Drive and deliver the agreed strategy to reduce plant downtime and improve efficiencies of machines and lines.Responsible for health and safety with regards to all equipment and plant to ensure a safe environment to operate and work on for all staff.Maintain the integrity of the engineering team and carry out corrective action if and when required.Ensure that the required focus is given to all audit requirements and findings.Management of the day-to-day activities and outputs of each discipline of the engineering department.Maintain discipline and standards in his/her area of responsibility.MaintenanceDrive sustainable maintenance practices throughout the plant.Manage the maintenance team and ensure that planned maintenance programs are implemented to enable optimal asset utilisation.Ensure that maintenance practices and procurement processes are aligned with business standards.Management of all planned maintenance, preventative schedules, work requests and break downs, with support from planner and Shift Fitters for the Processing and Rendering facility.Ensure that all staff are working according to safety regulations (GMR) and ensure the enforcement of food safety requirements.Be available on call-out and work on weekends or when necessary to ensure optimal performance of the team and effective maintenance of equipment.Ensure that the Planner develops a work schedule for all activities to be performed.Organise meetings with engineering staff and prepares inspection reports.Performs work inspections and checks for completeness of tasks.Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used.Plan and manage weekend maintenance tasks and projects against budget.Co-ordinates daily activities of engineering personnel.Ensures the neatness of the buildings and premises.Coordinates and manage, inspects, repairs and maintains all plant and equipment.Plan and manage leave roster of Mechanical engineering staff.Act as Engineering manager when he is not available and carry the GMR 2.1 responsibility.Repairs and RenovationsCoordinates and inspects major contract work for the Mechanical Department and other related systems.Ensure that the building has adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation and that it is properly cleaned, maintained and in good working condition.Provide LeadershipLead a team of artisans towards meeting the plant engineering strategy and targets xe2x80x93 through regular communication and utilisation of a full organisational talent management tool set.Deliver on agreed succession plans and develop a generation of leaders and specialists, overseeing engineering development programmes and on the job training.Manage employee relations and team climate to ensure optimal turnover and retention levels are maintained.Drives Employment Equity within the Mechanical engineering team to ensure that diversity is achieved at all levels and that statutory targets and requirements are met.Champions training and development of the team, utilising available training opportunities, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training.Contribute to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with regional training specialists.Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the Mechanical engineering team.Develops and manage high performance multi-disciplinary teams in order to solve problems within engineering proactively.Conducts daily operational meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.Maintain the integrity of the Mechanical engineering team and carry out corrective action if and when required.Management of the artisan and labour force with regard to HR and IR issues.Train and mentor his/her team to improve performance and reduce downtime.Management of Safety Health Environment and Quality (SHEQ)Appointed GMR 2.7.Guides the Mechanical engineering team to ensure that all legislative standards are achieved and timeous action is taken where required to ensure that there are no areas of non-compliance.Responsible for all legal/statutory compliance within the Rendering facility.Follows up on requirements for compliance ensuring that it is continuously maintained and adhered to.Measure and manage sustainability practices within his/her area of responsibility.Suggest amendments to policies and practices within operational area of responsibility with the processing and engineering manager to ensure that these are kept up to date and are aligned with company objectives and standards.Ensure that documentation required within the Total Quality Management system, is maintained and applied consistently throughout the area of responsibility and any policy and procedure training required highlighted in the training needs analysis and action appropriately.Safety and SecurityEnsure engineering staff follow safety rules and regulations as per organisationxe2x80x99s safety plan.Ensure that security access points to the premises and BMS system is in good working condition.Reporting of theft and dangers on the premises.Ensure safety equipment is in good working order e.g. fire extinguishers.Ensure that security is maintained and escalate any security concerns to the processing and engineering Manager and Senior Risk Officer.Financial ManagementManage costs to ensure lowest cost production and the optimal utilisation of assets.Report to engineering manager on a weekly basis on actual KPIxe2x80x99s versus budget and work with team to address any areas of non-conformance or concerns proactively and timeously.Report on and manage all input costs and manage any over or underspend appropriately to ensure that issues are escalated before significant financial loss occurs.Authorize Mechanical engineering expenses within the level of authority and monitor spending activity within teams to ensure compliance with financial and ethical standards.Implements and encourage cost cutting initiatives within the team where these do not impact on long term business sustainability.Work with the processing and Engineering manager in allocating spending to areas of high priority within the plant.Provide input into CAPEX documentation taking into account return on investment, resourcing, and sustainability requirements.Manage suppliers and contracts in collaboration with the procurement team to ensure agreed service levels are met, escalate areas of concern to the Processing and engineering Manager where necessary.Manage contractors in collaboration with Project Co-Ordinator on a daily basis through Shift Fitters to ensure that correct standards of work are delivered and agreed delivery timelines maintained.Ensure that stores team maintains a supply register and inventory of equipment and spares for use by engineering.Audit with the assistance of the Shift Fitters on a bi- annual basis the minimum and maximum stock levels of all engineering spares in stock, and adjust to manage stock at optimum, without impacting on service delivery.Job Type: Full-time
