Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/For our pharmaceutical sector, we are currently recruiting a Medical Affairs Manager (M/F) - Immunology & Neuroscience on a permanent contract. The role is based in our Johannesburg office.Job Purpose:

  • To develop and conduct medical activities with scientific premise and provide cross-departmental strategic guidance in line with company strategies and goals, J&J Credo and applicable J&J procedures and including but not limited to those related with Health Care Compliance, Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance, GCPs, Regulatory Regulations and local Legislation.
  • Plays an active role in defining and managing the budgets to achieve local company financial objectives.
  • People management and development - provides leadership to support effective functioning of MSLs. Coordinates as necessary to determine MSL visits qualitatively and quantitatively.
  • To act as a local representative to external stakeholders such as healthcare professionals, funders, societies, and patient organizations.
Main Duties and responsibilities:Middle Management cross-functional collaboration
  • Member of the country value team
  • Works actively to develop new strategies and improve existing ones for the therapeutic area and consolidate these strategies cross-functionally.
  • Collects and consolidates the necessary medical data and provides input on scientific data to top ethical standards.
  • Ensures medical aspects of company strategies and practices are compliant with HCBI, national and global ethical procedures.
  • Plays an active role in defining and managing the budgets to achieve local company financial objectives.
  • To act as a local representative to external stakeholders such as healthcare professionals, funders, societies, and patient organisations.
Medical Education and Training
  • Plays an active role in determining and organizing medical programs (e.g. training programs, international/national congress participation, advisory boards, course, disease awareness programs, assess impact and success.
  • Participates in medical training activities, contributing to achievement of product plans.
  • Plans and executes training for field force to equip them with sufficient medical knowledge and to ensure continuity of training programs.
People Management and Development
  • To recruit and retain the best available talent for local company
  • To ensure all line-reports have appropriate documented skills and training to undertake their roles.
  • Coordinates as necessary to determine MSL visits qualitatively and quantitatively in line with current key performance indicators.
  • To provide back-up to all essential tasks in times of absence etc.
  • To undertake appraisals and training review of all direct reports
  • By direct example, encourage and see opportunities for medical staff to develop their careers within the organization.
Data Generation and Dissemination Activities
  • Support clinical trial teams in clinical trials, planned / concluded / being conducted (identifying investigators, selecting centers, investigator meetings, joint visits, identifying the congresses/magazines for presenting the data, etc.), supports establishing communication with investigators as part of clinical investigation activities.
  • Supports and coordinates for review of posters, clinical studies, and manuscripts for local studies.
  • Coordinates with the clinical investigation team on NPP, research support and contributes to the approval process.
  • Provides the necessary scientific support for pipeline products to be included in the portfolio of responsibilities.
  • Plays an active role in product launch preparations, enhances communication with target physician groups and coordinates robustly with opinion leaders/associations/health authorities for medical positioning of products and determining appropriate strategies.
The qualifying requirements:
  • Science degree: MBChB/MBBCh, PhD, Masters
  • Prefer at least 2 years working experience in pharmaceutical industry or research company and with competency in a project management capacity.
  • Medical Affairs experience
  • Deep scientific knowledge on the therapeutic area
