Summary The Medical Manager, MDS is an exciting opportunity in South Africa. They will be a key member of the BD MDS Africa Leadership Team and of the EMEA Medical Affairs leadership team who will engage with key HCP (healthcare professionals) across the region to have scientific & medical discussions, engage with key societies who create guidelines across products/practices & support evidence generation for the practice/procedure of BD products.

As a leading manufacturer and supplier of products that are used daily in healthcare, the Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) team provide a wide range of products for injection and infusion therapy, regional anesthesia and closed medication management.

About the role

The Medical Manager is responsible for developing the medical workstreams in collaboration with the Africa business teams that support the operational & strategic activities of the business. For the management of a medical team for their implementation of these workstreams.

Main responsibilities will include:

Management of the Africa BD MDS Medical Team

  • Drives the overall operational strategy of the Africa Medical team ensuring that it continues to evolve and align with the needs of the Africa MDS business.
  • Contribute to create a Medical Team spirit with a high morale and motivation & ensure strong collaboration of their team with the rest of the BD Africa organization.
  • Support the Medical Team with account segmentation & prioritization of clinical activities in accordance with the MDS business unit. Develop new approaches to support customers and clinicians in an ever-changing healthcare environment (Digital, distance learning etc.)
Defining & driving the Medical Affairs strategy for BD Africa across a broad array of medical workstreams:
  • HCP Consulting & Clinical Support: Coordinate the activities of the African team to provide planned and ad-hoc medical & clinical support to HCP in support of the business strategies.
  • Education & Training: Coordinates the delivery of product & educational trainings & support the internal training of Africa associates on medical/scientific/technical areas.
  • KOL & Society Engagement: The establishment of credible peer to peer relationships with KOL and societies for the region supporting advocacy and engagement initiatives.
  • Scientific Exchange & Insight: Through the Africa Medical Team responds to medical inquires and off-label requests, gathers medical insights that support the business, through engagement of KOL, scientific societies, and the analysis of the latest published literature.
  • Evidence Generation & Dissemination: Manages an Africa evidence and dissemination council for the approval of local evidence opportunities & utilize the Africa Medical Team to identify evidence opportunities.
  • Service Solutions: Manage the compliant delivery of the BD MDS Medical Solutions (Audits & workflow reviews) through the African Medical Team
  • Business support: Manage the team to support business projects, by providing expertise and insights, and executing medical review of local materials.
About you
  • Certified as an HCP (Nurse or physician) and educated to bachelors degree in relevant Medical/Scientific Disciplines (i.e., Biology, Chemistry, Physic, Pharmacy, Biotechnology)
  • Proven experience of working ideally in an acute healthcare environmental although though other relevant experiences will be considered.
  • Previous professional experience in medical/clinical roles in Pharma and/or Medical Companies
  • Knowledge of the Healthcare System and medical device industry, including relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards which apply to interactions with HCPs, payers, and industry representatives.
  • Understanding of good clinical practice & clinical trial requirements & Medical device regulations
Travel: 50% travel, including overnight stays
