To provide comprehensive medical care/clinical support to patients enrolled in treatment programs and participants enrolled in clinical trials at PHRU
Location:
Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
Apply holistic patient management and care by providing an examination in line with GCP ensuring protocol adherence and applying correct prognosis/diagnosis taking all information and tests into account
Prescribe medication/s as necessary ensuring protocol adherence
Perform surgical and/or medical procedures as scheduled and required
Follow up on any previous outstanding health issues to resolution or stabilization and referral if required
Provide participant education and as required, inclusive of counseling, and where applicable refer participants to other health care providers such as clinics and the hospital as necessary
Discuss referrals with the appropriate hospital doctors in charge and ensure follow-up of participants that have been admitted to the hospital ensuring that participants referred to receive the required care e.g. referral for treatment to clinic or pharmacy is received
Request phlebotomy and other procedures that are to be conducted per participant visit
SOP development and reviews
Ensure cost-effectiveness in the operations at PHRU
Contribute to grant writing/applications for new funding
Contribute to publications/manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals as author, co-author
Develop strategies for each project to achieve its objectives within the given time frames
Participate in strategy development for the PHRU organization
Assist and support senior leadership with any other duties as required
Prepare and review budgets for each project in consultation with the respective finance and/or grants management department
Evaluate expenditure in each project according to the variance reports provided and if necessary realign budget line item allocations
Ensure correct billing for each specific project-related activity and purchasing
Facilitate timeous and accurate compilation of financial reports to the sponsors
Review status reports of applicable projects with Project Teams, address issues as appropriate, and provide leadership
Create and maintain channels of regular communication (reports, meetings, social media) with the respective managers, the CEO, and other stakeholders
Enforce standard policies and procedures of PHRU in all operations as well as Ethical guidelines and principles of Good Clinical Practice, and ensure compliance
Identify quality improvement areas in each project and ensure appropriate strategy and quality improvement initiatives are developed and measured
Delegate decision-making, authority, tasks, and responsibility to appropriate persons to maximize organization and employee effectiveness
Work effectively and cooperatively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial with the various stakeholders such as Hospital Management, District and Provincial Departments of Health, Universities, etc.
Provide regular reports to the sponsors and other stakeholders as required
Community engagement to identify any misinterpretations and improve the communitys understanding of the role of PHRU, research, and how they can participate
Enforce the principles of Good Customer Service in each project/study and review the mechanisms in place to encourage and review customer complaints
Required minimum education and training:
MBChB Degree
Required minimum work experience:
At least 2 years of experience in a clinical environment (can be inclusive of internship/community service time)
Being able to start work immediately will be an advantage
Professional body registration:
HPCSA registration
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
Experience in a clinical research environment will be an advantage
Registered with MPS
Excellent clinical skills
Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification
Research experience or willingness to learn
Computer literacy
