DescriptionA vacancy exists for Medical Technician - Immunohaematology - Donation Testing Department (Paterson Grade C1)Purpose of the Job:
- Performs all routine and complex testing on patient and donor blood samples for blood groups, Rh, antibody screens and identification, titre and phenotyping tests, contributing to blood safety in Transfusion Medicine.
- In special circumstances, molecular testing will be required.
- Carries out administrative duties pertaining to the functioning of the laboratory.
- Senior Certificate.
- Medical Technician certificate (Blood Transfusion).
- Registered with HPCSA.
- Computer literate.
- 2 years of previous blood transfusion experience.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible.
- No shift work is required but incumbent will be rostered to be on call for a week at a time. Being on call requires the incumbent to answer telephonic queries from blood banks (24/7). In specific, circumstances the incumbent will have to travel to work to perform tests to resolve queries.
