Duties/Pligte
SU study duties: Playing a significant role in ensuring that Mycobacterium tuberculosiscultures and/or derivatives, and their associated data are directed to the study in a timely manner.
Identifying sputum sediments.
Inoculating study MGITs.
Barcoding study MGITs.
Database registration.
Monitoring study-specific MGIT samples.
Transporting samples from the NHLS Greenpoint to Stellenbosch University.
NHLS Greenpoint duties and requirements:Participating and assisting in sorting and processing routine diagnostic assays being conducted in the TB laboratory at Greenpoint (including but not limited to GeneXpert, TB microscopy, culture
and other TB NAAT methods).Performing analysis of sputum, tissue and body fluids.
Preparing samples for examination.
Accurately interpreting results.
Establishing and monitoring programmes that ensure data accuracy.
Job Requirements/Pos VereistesBSc Honours degree.
HSPCA registration as Medical Technologist/Medical Scientist in microbiology/clinical pathology is obligatory.
Competencies in microbiology.
Computer literate, including with Office 360 applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge for the usage of specialised instrumentation (GeneXpert, MGIT96, etc.).
Knowledge of infection control and sterilisation protocols.
Accuracy and organisational skills.
Attention to detail, striving for an error free standard.
The ability to identity problems and troubleshoot.
Written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
Time management and evaluation skills.
Being part of the team and working under supervision of the assigned staff.
Recommendation/AanbevelingExperience in the field of Tuberculosis (working under BSL-3 conditions), or experience in next-generation sequencing methods.
