Medical Technologist (Wits VIDA) - SowetoMain purpose of the job:To be highly skilled healthcare professional and to play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by performing a variety of diagnostic test on patient samplesLocation:VIDA - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Soweto, JohannesburgKey performance areas:Sample testing and data analysisSample testingTesting the samples as requires by protocol and according to SOPsRecord all delivered samples on FreezerProUpdate FreezerPro for any movement or discarding of samplesAnalyse results using relevant programRe-run tests and follow up incomplete test as and when required as identified by protocol or as defined per work agreementSample ManagementSample receptionReceive labelled and captured samples from clinic and various studies as defined by study protocol or required by the sponsor or PICheck and verify that details on the tubes and CRFs correspondProcess and store the samples as indicated in the study specific protocol or defined in relevant SOPsRecord all samples in FreezerProQuality Assurance and ControlComplete QC as per study specific protocol/SOPs with internal quality control in conjunction with relevant staffPerform internal audits ad requires including freezer samples checkConduct and oversee the maintenance and calibration of equipment, including checking equipment calibration and maintenance, monitoring temperature charts daily as requiredPrepare media and regents to specification as required for testingManagement and storage of bio-hazardous waste and toxic material as requiredTimeously report all non-conformances within the QMS to managementPrepare and attend to audit as per notification received from QAO, sponsors or external entityLaboratory AdministrationManage logistical shipping process of infectious and biological substances from site to the designated locationOrder laboratory consumables and equipment as and when requiredLiaise with monitors and resolve queriesPerform relevant administration i.e. reporting, sample records, etc.Report any quality assurance issues to laboratory management using correct effective processDemonstrate cost consciousness and assist in meeting budgetary targetsEffective Self-Management and Performance OwnershipTake ownership and accountability for task and demonstrate effective self-managementFollow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of won work are consistently and accurately maintainedMaintain positive attitude and respond openly to feedbackTake ownership for driving own career development by participating ongoing training and development activitiesRequired minimum education and training:National Diploma in Medical Technology or Biomedical (3 years)/BSc DegreeRequired minimum work experience:Minimum 3 years of experience in medical microbiology, infectious disease or clinical pathology laboratory would be beneficialPBMC experience is essentialProfessional body registration:Registration with (HPCSA)Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:Certification in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and basic health safetyOrdered systemic and analyticalExceptional organizational attention to detail and administration skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and laboratory systemAble to work under pressure and adhere to deadlinesAssertive and confidentSelf-motivated able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary teamDemands of the job:Operates in a laboratory where health and safety must be always appliedExposure to hazardous and infectious samplesWork in a pressurized environment with precise turnaround time for high sample volumeTO APPLY:Only if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV.Please take note that the applicants who do not adhere to the above requirements will not be considered for the respective position.Please Apply Online and complete your registration on Ditto Hire (our application tracking system) to enable and protect you as a candidate to accept the new POPIA terms and conditions.
