Job Description


Our client, an ever expanding mine outside of Middelburg is seeking to employ an experienced and suitably qualified Metallurgical ManagerProcess Plan and Direct all Metallurgical work on siteDirect, plan, schedule and coordinate detail phases of metallurgical work withina specific project scopeManage the overall design of process flowsheets, plant layouts, materialhandling systems, manpower requirements, equipment procurement andmaterial utilization for new projectsDevelop an ongoing strategic plan to meet present and future metallurgicalneedsProvide technical expertise for the plant operating performance, reduce wasteand delays, promote cost reductions and achieve a high level of operatingefficiencyEvaluate current and potential processing methodsCreate and manage budgets according to Company plansProvide ongoing technical input to the development and implementation of plantstrategies and flow sheet concepts to support production objectives andoptimize financial resultsDeliver on the operating planImplement, monitor and control business processes according to qualitystandards, policy, and compliance and governance requirementsEnsure the development, alignment, mapping and implementation of end-to-endstandard operating procedures / processesResearch, enable and consult on improvements and opportunities to harnesstechnologyProvide Technical support to the operation teamTranslate technical specifications into an operations planAnalyse the recorded technical data and suggest process and technicalimprovements where necessaryFunction as a Metallurgical Engineering subject matter expertProvide metallurgical technical expertise to technicians, metallurgists andprocess plant operatorsImprove and adapt processes to create efficienciesAdvise on improvement opportunities or changing legislationMonitor metallurgical performance and coach technicians / specialists onconducting tests to improve throughput and recoveryFinanceMonitor costs or expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficienciesand reduce wasteComply with cost controls in order to achieve section budgetReport on cost usage that reflects delivery of planned work within agreedparametersIdentify and implement opportunities for cost reduction and to streamlineprocessesIdentify repeat failures that contribute to wastageEnsure good governance including the effective use of management systems tomonitor compliance to business direction and policiesEnsure financial documentation is maintained to support accurate recordkeeping and future requirements as per legislationEscalate potential risks that may lead to increased costs or financial lossesWork of the Role (KPA) Description of Output / KPAStakeholderRelationshipsBuild working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance workdelivery, collaboration and innovationBuild professional long-term relationships with stakeholdersEnsure customer service solutions are aligned to the operational business planEnsure product knowledge and advice is technically accurate and providestakeholders with relevant information to keep them informed of products andservice optionsEnsure timeous resolution of stakeholder queries and complaints and takeownership of issuesPeopleCoordinate, monitor and supervise the performance of direct reportsClearly define goals and objectives and provide direction, coaching and regularfeedbackEnsure compliance with all HR policies, procedures and standardsEnsure conflict resolution and respond to any complaints or concernsSupport skills development and transfer initiativesEnsure that all team members are competent to deliver the outputs of their jobswithin a specified time after being appointed in the positionReportingProvide Feedback to be used in reportsEnsure complete, timeous and accurate reporting with appropriate levels ofescalation to enable effective decision-makingEnsure feedback and progress reporting to stakeholdersAdhere to statutory standards, policies and procedures within the business unitto ensure compliance at all times and take remedial action where necessaryMonitor, analyse and audit the key business processes and metricsKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSMinimum skills requiredMinimum Qualification Preferred QualificationB-Tech/ B.Sc.
