The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:
Setting up of the spectrometer at start of shift and cleaning when necessary.
Sample preparation and chemical analysis for both furnace and ladle samples and making necessary corrections.
Preparation of date codes for the shift.
Weighing of alloying elements (Silicon, carbon).
Weighing and distribution of packets for treatment and inoculation.
Co-ordination during casting of different grades of SG. i.e., SG42, SG50, SG60, SG70.
Monitoring of furnace pouring temperature, pouring lights and fader alarm.
Testing of sand properties such as active clay, AFS, LOI, volatile content etc. and making necessary corrections.
Facilitation of moulding of test blocks.
Conducting trials to improve quality of the sand.
Melting Charge make-up control and capturing on excel
Ensure that pourers use clean teapot ladles that are preheated before pouring.
Testing raw materials i.e., steel scrap
Polishing and analysis of microstructure for castings.
Brinell hardness testing.
Communication with relevant departments to isolate metal that is not compliant.
Ensure that all test and measuring equipment is in good, safe operating condition and is utilized according to process specifications.
Conducting literature research to help solve problems experienced in the foundry.
Reporting to the store man when raw materials are running out.

Education/Qualifications / Experience / Skill
Matric/ N2 plus
Formal Tertiary qualification- National diploma in physical metallurgy or an equivalent qualification.
Computer Literacy
Must have at least 3 years experience in same or similar role.
Experience in same or similar industry.
Basic knowledge of the product range will be an added advantage.
Strong communication skills.
Always maintain a clean and organized work area.
