A reputable company is looking for a vastly experienced, highly skilled and suitable Mechanical Services Supervisor candidate for its chemical manufacturing factory in Kempton Park.
Purpose of the job
The Mechanical Services Supervisor reports to the Asset Care and Services Manager and has the primary duties and responsibilities to:
• Being appointed as the OHS Section 8.2 for all Engineering services which includes the following, but not limited to:
• Lifting equipment and cranes management
• Rigging services
• Lagging and Painting
• Forklift management
• Scaffolding
• Vehicles
• Bunds (Civils)
• Engineering waste management
To ensure all legal, statutory, equipment integrity and quality compliance takes place in accordance with the requirements of the OHS Act, General Machinery Regulations, Construction Regulations and other company policies and engineering codes of good practice.
• Fully understand the Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and ensure that all legal inspections and risk assessments are carried out and that general safety is adhered to in areas of supervision.
• Plan the execution of work as per the notifications generated from all internal clients across company. Plan the execution of work in line with the engineering standards, strategies and asset integrity philosophies for equipment, plant, machinery, and mechanical installations. Plan the execution of work in compliance to statutory and quality requirements. Plan and manage the execution of annual maintenance shutdowns from a services point of view. Ensure open and constructive communication takes place with all stakeholders.
• Supervise and Coordinate the Scaffolding, Rigging, Painting and other service-related teams, whether they are internal or outsourced. Arrange and maintain equipment, materials and consumables required to execute work in compliance to statutory and quality requirements. Ensure that tasks are being executed safely and effectively.
• Lead the Scaffolding, Rigging, Painting, Lagging and other service-related teams in ensuring compliance with the execution of the tasks. Create a constructive environment to lead the teams to engineering industry standards while maintaining good discipline.
• Control the Engineering Services infrastructure, systems, and resources in ensuring it is continuously available for operational purposes. Control and maintain the systems of work, plant, and machinery to ensure the health and safety of personnel and protection of machinery. Ensure that all statutory documentation is recorded and captured and easily available in times of audits and for general verifications
Experience
• 10 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical process plant.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience supervising an engineering services team
• In-depth knowledge of engineering principles and maintenance management systems (CMMS, SAP PM)
• Competent in the use, maintenance, and supervision of scaffold building, rigging, lifting equipment, ladders, lagging, painting and structural repairs.
• Knowledge and experience of working with external contractors and service providers.
• Experience in the drafting and implementing of SLA agreements
• Sound understanding of contractor management and project management in a statutory maintenance shutdown.
• Extensive knowledge of the OHS Act and its regulations
• Managing poor performance and incapacity, and incident investigations.
• Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Qualifications:
• Matric / N3
• National Diploma – Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering
• Driver’s licence
• Scaffold building and rigging competency certificates (advantageous)
• Rigging and lifting equipment competency certification advantageous
Technical Competencies
• Knowledge of ISO 14001, 45001, 9001
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety act
• SHERQ Training courses
• Safety Work Permit training
• Knowledge of SANS 10085 (The design, erection, use and inspection of access scaffolding)
• The removal and installation of lagging and cladding
• Lifting equipment legal requirements
• Computer Literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
• Excellent people management skills
• Digilex and SAP ERP
• Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
• Time and scheduling management
• Shut down Planning
Personal Circumstances:
• Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical centre
• May be required to be on standby.
Other details:
Salary: R300K – R400K basic annual salary highly negotiable depending on experience (Market related).
