A reputable chemical manufacturing company based in Kempton Park has a challenging but exciting position for a suitably qualified chemical manufacturing manager.
Purpose of the job
The Chemical Manufacturing Manager reports to the Production Manager and has the primary responsibilities of:
• Overall responsibility for establishing and meeting production targets, plant performance, and equipment utilisation.
• Manufacturing quality products at low cost whilst observing EH&S and other performance criteria.
• Management focus to lead the Production Units towards industry best practices and to integrate production outputs with the work of other areas in the business.
• Ensuring alignment of the company’s manufacturing services, policies and strategies to broader organisational strategy and direction.
• Establishing systems, procedures, and processes to ensure the delivery of an effective manufacturing service to all stakeholders.
• Executing appropriate SHERQ requirements within the organisation to minimise risks relating to the continued production of chemical products.
In a case of manpower shortage in the control room, the incumbent will also be required to assist until such a time that control room operators are available.
Experience
• 5 to 10 years in a manufacturing plant environment, preferably chemical or similar manufacturing sector.
• At least 3 years in a production management role, preferably in the electrolysis of sodium chloride manufacturing industry
• Adequate knowledge of the OHS Act and legal appointments
• In-depth knowledge of production principles and S&OP planning processes
• Experienced in using SCADA for process control, SAP for production planning and booking and MES for production reporting
• Adequate knowledge of Hazardous Chemical manufacture, storage, transportation, and handling
• Experience on product quality management and ISO 9001.
• Sound understanding of contractor management, supplier management, change principles and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
• Matric
• BSc, BEng or BTech in Chemical engineering or Operations management
• A postgraduate qualification in management is advantageous
Qualifications:
• ISO systems implementation and auditing certificates and/or experience
• Continuous professional development in production management
Technical competencies
• Extensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No. 85 of 1993.
• Extensive knowledge of ISO 14001, 45001, 9001
• Extensive knowledge of Hazardous Chemical Manufacturing and Handling Codes
• Knowledgeable on different types of equipment related to chemical manufacturing plants.
• Experience in managing and coordinating production projects, logistics analytics, safety incidents and maintenance activities.
• In depth knowledge of end-to-end logistics processes and best practices, management systems, public transport regulations, security and customer service.
• Experience in using SharePoint and Corrective Action Systems (i.e., Digilex)
• Knowledge of Computerized Production Systems (i.e., SAP IM and MES)
• Experienced in relationship building and cross collaboration at a management level
• Strategic management, planning, co-ordination, and control
• Skilled in managing and responding to customer complaints and satisfaction indexes
• Computer literacy in SAP and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Personal Circumstances:
Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the company’s medical Centre.
Other details
Salary: R720k basic annual salary highly negotiable, depending on experience.
