Through our exhibitions, programs, and initiatives, we aim to inspire creativity, foster critical thinking, and contribute to the cultural landscape of Africa and the world.Job SummaryThis role reports to the Education Manager and the Head of Centre for Art Education (CFAE). The purpose of Museum Educator is to co-ordinate, manage and facilitate the Educational Institutions Programming, including School and Tertiary Tours, as well as organising the MOCAA Art Club. The Museum Educator will work closely with the CFAE team to support other education programmes. This is a front-facing role where you will interact and communicate with the general public, students and teachers, and local and international visiting groups.Key Responsibilities:Educational Programming Coordination and TeachingCoordinates education programs, including workshops, tours, and gallery activities.Manages scheduling of tours and workshops on the digital calendar.Plans and develops educational tours for various age groups.Leads guided educational tours in the museum.Creates teaching and learning materials based on exhibitions.Implements workshops, tours, dialogues, and interactive activities.Designs and teaches practical and theoretical workshops for all audiences.AdministrationRecords education visitor numbers for institutional programs.Compiles art material lists for workshops.Coordinates transport bookings with the Education Administrator.Prepares reports for the annual review.Maintains digital archives of education resources and lesson plans.Manages catering for institutional programs.Assists in monitoring and restocking CFAE supplies.Submits weekly payment schedules to the Education Administrator & Manager.Documents programs and archives photos on SharePoint.Partnerships and Relationship BuildingManages correspondence with schools, institutions, and organizations for tour and program planning.Assists in developing and implementing curriculum resources linking exhibitions to classroom content.Liaises with education departments, schools, and institutions.Distributes holiday and museum program information to the CFAE network.Planning, meetings, exhibitionsAttends weekly CFAE and curatorial meetings.Assists in planning holiday programs.Displays artwork in CFAE classrooms.Supports exhibitions related to education programs and collaborations.Qualifications:Bachelors degree in art history, museum studies, education, or a related fieldMinimum of 3 years of art/design teaching experience in formal or informal arts education sector.Experience in museum education is a strong recommendation.Teaching experience across a range of age groups at primary and high school level is a strong recommendation.RequirementsPassion for art education and learning.Interest in contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.Strong English fluency and writing skills.isiXhosa and Afrikaans proficiency recommended.Availability for occasional weekend and after-hours workStrong communication and knowledge-sharing skills.Confident in engaging diverse groups in educational settings.Practical and theoretical art teaching expertise.Skilled in writing and designing educational resources.Strong administration, coordination, and research abilities.Independent, deadline-driven, and solution-oriented.Effective classroom management and public engagement.Dynamic, energetic, and collaborative team player.Comfortable facilitating discussions and interactive learning.Proficient in Microsoft Office with a willingness to learn new toolsZeitz MOCAA is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, and candidates from underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
