Join us in our mission to provide quality products, value, and service to our customers, every single day.PURPOSE OF THE ROLEThe National Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational management of Econofoods' national fleet. This role ensures efficient, cost-effective, and compliant fleet operations to support the companyxe2x80x99s distribution of frozen, chilled, and ambient products across South Africa. The manager will optimize fleet performance, implement best practices, and drive continuous improvement in vehicle utilization, distribution scorecards, compliance, and cost control.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFleet Operations Management

  • Oversee the nationwide fleet, ensuring optimal vehicle availability, utilization, and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement fleet strategies to support distribution needs, customer service levels, and cost reduction.
Maintenance & Compliance
  • Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
  • Ensure fleet compliance with all road safety regulations, licensing, permits, and health & safety requirements.
  • Manage relationships with service providers, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality maintenance and repairs.
Cost Control & Budgeting
  • Develop and manage the national fleet budget, monitoring costs related to fuel, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in fleet operations.
  • Track and analyse fleet performance metrics, including fuel efficiency and repair costs.
  • Procure new vehicles in line with company standards and approval processes.
Technology & Systems
  • Utilize fleet management systems for vehicle tracking, fuel monitoring, and performance reporting.
  • Drive technology adoption, such as telematics, to improve efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce fleet policies and procedures in line with best practices.
  • Generate key metrics and distribute these nationally, and support regional teams with problem solving areas of non-compliance.
Team Leadership & Training
  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional teams towards improved fleet management and control.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on road safety, compliance, and operational best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, process discipline and continuous improvement within the greater Logistics team.
Risk Management & Safety
  • Implement policies to reduce fleet-related risks, including driver fatigue management and accident prevention programs.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure insurance claims and reporting processes are handled efficiently.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCEBachelorxe2x80x99s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, or a related field.Minimum of 5-10 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in fleet management within the logistics, food distribution, or retail sector.Proven experience managing a national or large-scale fleet operation.COMPETENCIES REQUIREDStrong understanding of transport regulations, compliance, and fleet best practices in South Africa.Proficiency in fleet management software and telematics systems.Excellent leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.Strong financial acumen and ability to manage budgets and cost controls.High attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.Live our Ho Hola Values.HOW TO APPLYIf you are passionate about this position and possess the skills and experience to excel in this role, we invite you to join our team.
