Our client in the Telecommunications industry is currently looking for a Network Engineer, in Western Cape (Hybrid + Site Travel)Responsibilities:

  • Network Assessment and Implementation:
  • Implement network infrastructure within both POP and DC(Core) environments to Engineering specifications.
  • Assess network performance and recommend improvements in the architecture to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Install and configure network equipment (routers, switches, OLTs etc.)
  • Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
  • Monitor network performance using tools like NMS, Wireshark, or other network monitoring software and protocols.
  • Troubleshoot network issues, including connectivity, bandwidth usage, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Investigate and resolve network-related incidents and service disruptions promptly.
  • Security:
  • Ensure network infrastructure is securely configured.
  • Regularly update and patch network devices to mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Network Upgrades and Maintenance:
  • Perform regular network maintenance and upgrades to ensure optimal performance.
  • Implement and maintain redundant network systems to ensure network uptime.
  • Document network configurations, architectures, and other network-related procedures.
  • Collaboration and Support:
  • Work closely with the Engineering team to resolve network-related issues.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to non-technical stakeholders regarding network-related queries.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve connectivity or hardware issues.
  • Recovery and Backups:
  • Layout and test recovery plans for network infrastructure regularly to identify bottlenecks.
  • Regularly back up network configurations and critical data to secure storage.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 7 years of experience in network engineering, TAC and Implementation.
  • Proficiency in networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, and VLANs.
  • Hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, etc.)
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, NMS, TCPdump etc.)
  • Experience with wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, 802.11 standards)
  • Knowledge of cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure (AWS, Azure, VMware)
  • Understanding of Wireless Hotspots.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Required.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other security certifications a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in high-urgency situations.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and virtualized network environments is an advantage.
  • Full-time position; may require some after-hours support during emergencies or scheduled maintenance.
  • Requires travel to different office locations or data centres.
Renumeration:
  • R60 000 R70 000 per month dependant on qualification and experience.
