Job Description


Our client based in Port Elizabeth is looking for a Nurse Manager for General Wards who will be responsible for overseeing and managing the nursing function within the hospital in line with the hospitals strategic goals. This role involves leading the nursing team, ensuring high-quality patient care, and achieving objectives for growth, quality, and people management.Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the nursing function in the General Wards to ensure the delivery of optimal patient care in line with hospital standards and procedures
  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate the nursing staff to foster a culture of continuous improvement and high-performance
  • Ensure compliance with nursing policies, procedures, and protocols, maintaining the highest levels of care and safety for patients
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient care planning and delivery
  • Oversee the implementation of nursing strategies to meet hospital targets for quality and patient satisfaction
  • Ensure proper staff management, including recruitment, training, performance management, and development
  • Manage nursing budgets, resources, and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Drive the implementation of quality initiatives to maintain and improve patient outcomes
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and legal standards, including compliance with labour legislation and SANC requirements
  • Act as a key liaison between nursing staff and senior management, facilitating effective communication and feedback
  • Develop and implement strategies for the continuous improvement of nursing practices and patient care services
  • Monitor, review, and report on nursing performance, ensuring alignment with hospital goals
Requirements:
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing
  • Post-graduate qualification in Nursing Management
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant clinical experience in a medium to large hospital setting
  • At least 5 years of proven leadership and management experience in a medium or large healthcare facility, preferably in private healthcare
  • Basic understanding of labour legislation
  • Knowledge of business principles and commercial orientation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel
  • Sound business acumen and financial management understanding
