Thungela Resources [Thungela means "to ignite" in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
As the
Operational Accountant
you will be expected to reconcile ledger balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of recons as well as identifying anomalies and timeous clearing of reconciling items.
Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Preparing general accounting, payroll, cost, and accrual journals as well as the reallocation of incorrect postings
Supporting accurate preparations and submissions of Minerals Council of SA and the DMRE
Assisting the Accountant with month end reporting by ensuring cost completeness in line with requirements
Populating the Cost Performance Management template and supporting the process of cost reviews
Managing relationships with key stakeholders, understanding and delivering on their operational needs, and identify and resolve issues timeously
Contributing to the broader business by working with other teams, which optimises the overall business results
Identifying opportunities of improved cost and commercial management

Financial Controller
Qualifications
Diploma/ Degree in Accounting or relevant Financial Discipline
Experience
Minimum of 3 years' experience in Finance environment
SAP experience is advantageous
Additional Information
Emerging knowledge of data analysis and reporting techniques, processes, and tools
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Income tax act
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence and achieve buy in from key stakeholders
