Job Description


This position will mainly be responsible for:1. CUSTOMER SERVICE, MARKETING & SCHEDULING- Liaising with customers for orders, inquiries, and rates.- Daily scheduling of fleet in Port Elizabeth, George, and Eastern Cape area.- Coordination with Head of Operations and Subcontractors department on the allocation of loads.- Forwarding of ETA reports.- Forwarding of high-risk loads daily.- Route inspections.- The recruitment of new customers through customer visits as indicated by the marketing plan.- Research regarding new customers.- Visits to existing customers to ensure continuous, high-quality service and maintain good customer relations.- Inspection of client's distribution department and facilities.- Continuous telephone contact with new and existing customers.- Communication with customers in the event of lost cargo, hi-jacking of vehicles, and accidents, as well as any claims arising from the above.- Regular follow-up visits to new and existing customers.- Facilitates negotiations between clients and company2. STAFF & ADMINISTRATION- Settlement of outstanding disciplinary cases - long-distance drivers and accomplices.- Check and authorize workshop bakkie kms + diesel consumption.- Coordination of workshop staff and tasks.- Checking of staff overtime.- Clock times received daily from staff office, check, sign, and send back.- Debriefing of drivers regarding diesel consumption, consumption of pods, and trip sheets.- Maintaining discipline.- Depot and workshop staff regularly test for alcohol and drugs.3. DEPOT FUNCTIONS- Control of depot functions and depot staff.- Ensure that productivity in the depot is of high quality and that delays do not occur.- Ensure that ablution facilities are clean and tidy daily.- If repairs and maintenance are to be done to depot buildings, quotes are obtained and passed on for approval.- To arrange and keep up to date the firefighting equipment's services.- Inform Security of any problems and ensure that their functions are carried out correctly.- Keep a register of all equipment and ensure that the former are booked in and out.- Ensure that RTMS requirements are met.- Ensure that all parked vehicles in the yard:

  • Parked in the correct place.
  • Ensure that vehicle keys are handed in to the Security department and locked.
  • Diesel cards are registered and locked.
  • Vehicles washed and clean including tarpaulins;
  • Equipment is complete and in working order e.g. mobile phone, tracking etc.;
  • Damaged products ex. cargoes are stored and registered and locked in the warehouse;
  • Tires of vehicles are inflated and torqued.
  • Hook up and unhook vehicles according to operating instructions.
  • Equipment on vehicles is complete, e.g. tarpaulins, corner plates, paper savers, rubber strips, bells, etc.
  • Vehicles depart according to operating instructions from Operations correct front hitch/lean-to and driver etc.;
  • Vehicles leave depot on time in the morning accordingly work assignments passed on the previous evening.
  • Ensure that security performs their duties in accordance with duty statements.
4. GENERAL- Inventory control of parts storage and purchases.- Service of equipment e.g. compressor / forklift / weapon etc.- Depot cleanliness and maintenance.- Daily inspection of local fleets and trailers.- Transmission of daily tires report.- Make regular after-hours visits to the depot to ensure that everything is in order.- Responsible for the arrival of pallets in relation to the Eastern Cape.
