Who we are:With a philosophy that promotes restorative discipline and trauma-aware education, South Africas Cape Kids Foundation is providing holistic support and high-quality academic teaching to under-served young people from the Cape Flats townships, where they have been exposed to gang violence, drug abuse, family instability, and mental stress. By giving students the support needed to achieve emotional strength and excellence in academic attainment, the foundation aims to change their lives and interrupt the inter-generational cycle of poverty, violence, and trauma.What we need:Cape Kids Foundation is expanding, and were seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our dedicated team. This newly created role will play a key part in helping the directors achieve strategic objectives by overseeing facilities management, finance, and support functions that ensure the organization runs smoothly.If youre passionate about elevating a thriving organization to new heights and are happy to adapt and evolve your role as the organisations needs adapt, this job is for you. You will take on key responsibilities from the directors while enhancing the operational function. Using your diverse experience and knowledge of best practices, youll work closely with the office team to evaluate and improve processes, driving greater efficiency across the organization.The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in management within a nonprofit environment or the education sector. They will be socially conscious and embody Cape Kids Foundations core values of responsibility, respect, confidentiality, a love of learning, and striving to be your best self.While some flexibility in working hours is offered, this is primarily an on-site role.What is expected from this job:Strategic SupportWork closely with the directors to align operational goals and activities with the organizations mission and strategic objectives.Provide insights and recommendations to support long-term planning and improvement initiatives.Stakeholder Relationship BuildingCultivate and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including vendors, and other NPOs.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and ensure an organised and productive work environment.Financial OversightOversee the financial department, delivering accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and sound financial decision-making.Manage the organizations budget, tracking expenses and revenues to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.IT Systems and IntegrationOversee the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of IT systems to support operational needs and program delivery.Identify opportunities to integrate new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.Facilities ManagementManage the maintenance, safety, and functionality of buildings and facilities, ensuring they meet operational and functional needs.Oversee vendor contracts, repairs, and upgrades to physical spaces.Legislative and Regulatory ComplianceEnsure the organization adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements, including data protection, employment laws, and health and safety standards.Efficiency and Process ImprovementEvaluate existing processes and systems, identifying areas for improvement to enhance operational efficiency.Design and implement streamlined workflows, tools, and practices to optimize performance.Staff ManagementLead, manage, and support the operations team, fostering professional growth and ensuring alignment with the organizations goals and values.Facilitate clear communication and collaboration across departments.Education:Undergraduate degree in the commerce field.Experience:8 years as high-level manager in an NPO environment or 5 years as an operational manager in a related organisation.5 years of experience overseeing functions such as facilities, IT, and finance.Preferably you will have come from an environment where you have had exposure to setting up or updating systems and processes.Skills & Attributes:Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint).Passionate about/ Interested in fostering the education and well-being of young people.Empathy for trauma.Experience working in or familiarity with the non-profit sector.Can-do attitude, resilience and excitement to take on new tasks and learn new things and happy to do what is needed to support the team.Able to build collaborative relationships using effective interpersonal skills.Gaining commitment; able to develop support for ideas, proposals, projects, and solutions.Strong leadership skills: Using appropriate methods and interpersonal styles to develop, motivate, and guide the team to attain successful outcomes.Analytical skills; able to approach a problem by using a logical systematic approach, analysing information/ data to make decisions or to draw conclusions.Able to identify improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and implement systems and processes to maintain the improvement.Results focussed; able to focus persistently on outcomes, establishing goals, monitoring progress to toward them and ultimately achieving them.Flexibility, the ability to respond to immediate needs.We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
