Two exciting opportunities is available for energetic, self-motivated, and dynamic Operations Managers. The one position is in the Sea modality team as part of the Customs National Targeting Operational Centre, located in Durban, and the other in the Air modality team as part of the Customs National Targeting Operational Centre, located at OR Tambo teams respectively, both within Customs & Excise portfolio. The incumbents will be responsible for providing stewardship leadership and ensuring that Customs Targeting with specific attention to illicit goods are executed with Customs & Excise legislation. The incumbents will be responsible for the relevant national modality targeting teams in Sea and Air respectively, which is located in various offices nationally. Furthermore, the applicant must be able to work under pressure, have zero tolerance for corruption, be available to work flexible operational hours and remain professional in dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.Job Purpose
To plan, manage and monitor the implementation of Customs targeting activities and end-to-end processes, by managing the internal operations and resources within Customs division, in order to deliver on approved operational plans and to continuously enhance service delivery.Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience RequiredRelevant Bachelor's Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in a Business Management / Risk management / Auditing / Accounting / Legal related field AND 5-7 years' experience in Customs administration or operations / import and export related experience, of which 1 year ideally at supervisory level. Targeting/Illicit Trade/Risk Management experience and knowledge will be advantageous.ALTERNATE:
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 10 years Customs administration or operations / import and export related experience, of which 1 year ideally at supervisory level. Targeting / Illicit Trade/Risk Management experience and knowledge will be advantageous.Minimum Functional Requirements

  • Provide daily direction to team members in terms of focus areas, tip-off or any illicit movement detected
  • Plan and implement operations in a specific office or nationally within the modality in line with national directives and/or international operations
  • Support and monitor handovers to operational teams and ensure timeous feedback
  • Engagement with Customs counterparts on a daily basis to resolve any challenges, ensure common understanding of required outcomes and follow through on
successes to ensure clients are dealt with effectively and efficiently in terms of all direct and indirect tax compliance relevant to the success.
