Job Description


Main Objectives
To lead a high-performance packing team to deliver packed grain products in line with stock management and buffer management system requirements.Key Responsibilities:
1. To ensure packing process delivers consistent high-quality packed products in line with required specifications by:

  • Performing resource planning needed for the packing process
  • Collaborating with the milling team to ensure adequate stock is produced
  • Managing packing materials
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the value chain.
  • Optimal mixing and blending if needed (plant specific)
2. Ensure best cost packing through planning, organizing and managing the function in line with agreed expense budget and resource plans.3. Ensure high-performance culture in the packing team by:
  • Building and motivating capability through competency-based selection
  • Training and development, coaching, mentoring, performance management
  • Effective communications
  • Leading and participating in Invocoms and meetings as needed
  • Ensuring good discipline and accountability
  • Establishing good working relationships with union representatives
  • Ensuring a conducive and safe working environment according to the Premier Way.
4. To ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance to all health and safety and food safety requirements in line with Premier standards and SOPs by ensuring training of relevant personnel, audits and corrective action of all findings in collaboration with the risk function.5. To ensure continuous improvement of the packing process and function through:
  • Ensuring a culture of learning and continuous improvement in the Invocom
  • Perform route cause analysis when needed and ensure corrective action with relevant stakeholders.
  • Driving continuous improvement of packing processes based on the feedback from the quality and the packing teams and doing internal and external benchmarking from time to time.
6. To ensure optimal plant asset management through implementation timeous corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with company SOPs and maintenance system.Skills and Attributes Required:
  • Supervisory and Management principles and practices (Essential)
  • Financial acumen to support planning, budgeting, and cost controls (Essential)
  • Performance management principles (Essential)
  • Disciplinary and grievance management process requirements (Essential)
  • Continuous improvement processes (Desirable)
  • Health, Safety, Environment and Risk Management principles pertaining to industry (Essential)
Qualification Requirements
  • Matric
  • LSS Greenbelt or Lean Leader (Essential)
  • Manufacturing Academy Certificate or Leadership/Supervisory Certificate equivalent (Desirable)
  • Advanced OSHACT certificate (Essential)
Experience Requirements
  • FMCG Packing Supervisor/Manager 2-3 Years (Essential)
  • Stock management system principles 2-3 Years (Essential)
  • Food safety requirements (FSSC 22000) (Essential)
Key Outputs
  • Availability for excessive working hours, including weekends and shifts, as required by the role
  • Ability to work in environments exposed to noise and warm temperatures, such as the milling facilities
  • Own transportation to commute to work locations or travel as necessary
