  • The Pharmacist will support all NACOSAs clinical related work, with specific deliverables related to the People Who Use Drugs Programme (PWUD), AYP (Adolescent Young People), SIB (Social Impact Bond).
  • Review and update clinical process and documents in line with SANC and Pharmacy Council Guidelines
  • Review our PSM (Procurement and Supply Management) plan to update and scrutinize whether all the Pharmacy guidelines are covered to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with the process of reviewing and update Pharmaceutical and clinical-related standard operating procedures.
  • Assist to review the current Health Product list and recommend updates or changes to ensure that the health care needs are effectively addressed.
  • Work with various sub-recipient organisations to support the implementation of their Prep Plan and advise on processes to ensure the necessary licenses are in place so that the plan can be executed while remaining compliant to legislation.
  • Assist to review and update training material on pharmaceutical related matters.
  • Guide and support the process to ensure dispensing licenses are in place at sub-recipient level where needed.
  • Perform a general review of the level of compliance with pharmaceutical regulations across sub-recipients and provide recommendations to ensure compliance.
  • Provide mentoring and support to NACOSA.
  • Ensure quality assurance as per Global Fund requirements.
  • Specific Deliverables related to the People who use drugs (PWUD) programme.
  • Design a NACOSA Standard operating procedure to support Clinical staff based at sub-recipient level regarding OST (Opioid Substitution Therapy)
  • Advise on the best practice methods to implement Methadone destruction policy.
  • Support the sub-recipient staff on general queries and support as may be needed from time to time.
  • Design training materials to focus on the specific challenges related to the PWID Programme.
Required qualifications, skills, and experience.
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
  • Registration with Pharmacy Council.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a similar NGO, clinical programmes, or clinical health care setting
  • A thorough working understanding HIV/AIDS/TB/STI and COVID-19
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Previous experience as specialist as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience in Capacity Building and Training related to pharmaceutical matters.
  • Provide technical guidance to implementers and programme/clinical staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in one or more South African languages besides English a distinct advantage.
  • Understanding of the NGO sector and knowledge of big donor processes/requirements will be a benefit.
  • South African national or permanent residence is preferred.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Willingness to travel regularly in South-Africa (travel cost to be covered)

  • Ability to work well in a team environment, and to coordinate multiple inputs to tight deadlines, with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
