Job Description


Our client, a leader in the private healthcare industry, is seeking experienced Phlebotomists to work in ICU and High Care Units at a private hospital located in Constantiaberg (Western Cape). It is essential that candidates have experience in drawing arterial blood gas samples. This is an opportunity to work fixed temporary shifts for approximately three months, with the potential for extension. Complimentary indemnity insurance cover is offered.
Requirements

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist.
  • Must be a Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse, or Phlebotomy Technician with a certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques.
  • Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse, or Phlebotomy Technician with a certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques.
  • Registered with SANC or HPCSA as a Medical Technician in the category of Phlebotomy.
  • NB: Must have experience in drawing arterial blood gas samples.
  • Comprehensive understanding of phlebotomy procedures and protocols.
  • Sound knowledge of the National Health Act and medical ethical guidelines relevant to the medical pathology field.
  • Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology pertinent to medical pathology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an excellent bedside manner, demonstrating professionalism in patient interactions.
  • Professional appearance and effective communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
Key OutputsJob Summary: Responsible for arterial blood gas draws in ICU and High care units, adhering to professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Draw arterial blood gas samples in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements to ensure safe patient care.
  • Identify, prevent and report risks ensuring patient safety and following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a sterile work environment.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities to guarantee accurate recording and processing of patient and clinical information.
  • Ensure that all utilised stock is accurately recorded and charged.
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships as part of the hospital's multi-disciplinary team.
