Job Description


Our client in the Hospitality and Culinary industry, is currently looking for a Pizza Commis Chef, in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of artisanal pizzas under the guidance of senior chefs.
  • Support the pizza section with mise-en-place, including dough preparation, portioning, sauce preparation, and preparing toppings.
  • Learn and apply traditional pizza-making techniques, ensuring the quality and consistency of pizzas.
  • Ensure pizzas are prepared and cooked to the restaurants fine dining standards, focusing on presentation and taste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pizza section, adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of pizza ovens (e.g., wood-fired or stone ovens).
  • Work closely with the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef to ensure efficient kitchen operations during service.
  • Assist in managing stock levels for pizza ingredients and informing senior chefs of any shortages.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve your culinary skills, with a focus on pizza-making and fine dining techniques.
Requirements:
  • Culinary Diploma or Formal Chef Training from an Accredited Institution (preferred but not mandatory with relevant experience).
  • Previous experience as a Commis Chef, preferably in a restaurant or pizzeria setting.
  • Passion for pizza-making and a desire to learn and develop skills in the culinary arts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Remuneration and Benefits:
  • Up to R13 000 CTC per month.
