We are currently seeking an experienced Clearing and Forwarding Clerk to be based in Johannesburg to prepare customs documentation for any imported and exported shipments on behalf of the company.
Key Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)
Claims and order processing
Prepare and submit the necessary import documentation
Prepare and submit the necessary export documentation
Ensure claims related to damages and lost cargo are processed timeously in order to comply with liability and insurance requirements thereby safeguarding both the company and client’s interest
Carry out the placement and expediting of orders while ensuring the forwarding and controlling process is correctly managed
Allocating the correct licence depending on type of goods being imported
Attend meetings with Customs Officials in the application of duty refunds and tariff reclassification as appropriate and will assist with any appeals that are forthcoming
Post bonds for the products being imported or assist clients in obtaining bonds
Prepare the necessary import documentation such as certificates of origin and cargo control documents.
Keep management updated at all times on outstanding issues or changes by SARS
Prepare the necessary import documentation such as certificates of origin and cargo control documents
Compliance
Ensure that all applicable laws have been adhered to in order to enable cargo entry and export clearance
Ensure a high level of adherence to ISO procedures and assist with the implementation of any improvements as and when required
Registration of files, air freight, sea freight, road freight, imports, exports and cross border
Reporting
Tracking deliveries, shipments, etc
Skills and Qualifications
Degree in Logistics (REQUIRED)
Fully conversant with import and export laws and regulations
Proven experience working with a bond store
Understand and have knowledge of all import and export codes
5-6 years’ experience in freight forwarding and clearing
Previous experience in FMCG industry
Proven experience using a clearing system (REQUIRED)
Knowledge of customs clearing processes and procedures (required)
General sea freight, airfreight, roadfreight, cross border, imports and exports knowledge
Ability to work independently, Assertive and confident
Attention to detail, systematic and articulate
Ability to interact with clients, customs officials, etc
Computer literate, MS Office suite and Easyclear
