  • BCom or similar degree.
  • Preferably a postgraduate qualification.
  • 5+ years in the financial services industry.
  • 2+ years in portfolio management.
  • Other relevant education or courses.
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services Industry, particularly in advice and investment management sectors.
  • Understanding of FAIS, FICA, and other relevant legislation.
  • Experience in Asset Allocation (Strategic and Tactical), Equity research and portfolio management, Fixed income analysis, Cashflow management and corporate actions, Global and local investments.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint essential), xPlan, and familiarity with a share portfolio system is an advantage.
  • Excellent marketing and client acquisition (sales) skills and experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • High energy, customer-centric, and relationship-oriented.
  • Methodical, accurate, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities and expectations but not limited to:
Marketing, Client Acquisition and Mandates:
  • The PM must prepare material and be involved in face-to-face client introductory meetings and pitches.
  • Ensure that the portfolio recommendation complies with the FAIS Act and other regulatory requirements and ensure that the investment strategy is consistent with the advice dispensed.
  • Ensure that the Portfolio Mandate is completed correctly and that the account set-up is created in alignment with the mandate and advice dispensed.
  • Contribute to any Business Development initiatives that the business undertakes to attract new clients.
Portfolio Implementation, Portfolio Management and Research:
  • Ensure that new portfolios are implemented in accordance with the mandate, strategy and client specific requirements.
  • Manage client portfolios according to the agreed investment strategy.
  • Maintain oversight of the dealing process to ensure that trades are completed in accordance with the instructions directed.
  • Conduct company, sector, thematic or associated research to contribute to the teams overall research efforts.
Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure portfolio compliance to mandates, regulatory limits and business restrictions.
  • Ensure oversight of trade execution for any trade risk management.
  • Ensure portfolio risk variances are maintained within approved limits.
Client Engagement and Administration:
  • Engage formally on annual reviews of client portfolios.
  • Perform ad-hoc reviews and or regular engagements with clients as per defined client requirements.
  • Ensure oversight of client portfolio administration is accurate across corporate actions, trade execution, tax and reporting.
