Additional information:

• The applicant will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, international and supportive research environment (within the Strengthening Oncology Services Research Unit of the University of the Witwatersrand - SOSRU) and supervised by Dr Maureen Joffe, SOSRU Director

Main purpose of the job:

• Based in Johannesburg, the studies will be conducted in Soweto Community, Primary Health Clinics and in the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Breast Unit

Location:

• Based in Johannesburg, the studies will be conducted in Soweto Community, Primary Health Clinics and in the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Breast Unit

Key performance areas:

• Assessing if and how to involve traditional healers in breast, cervical, prostate cancer community awareness and screening services
• Expanding data collection and analysis of barriers and enablers to cervical cancer screening in Soweto primary care clinics
• Exploring the breast cancer journey of very young women with breast cancer and their needs
• Supervise a qualitative interviewer who will assist with data collection
• Assist with ethics applications

Required minimum education and training:

• PhD in Medical Anthropology or relevant fields

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:

• Have a friendly outgoing personality
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Good emotional intelligence
• Familiar with the Soweto Community
• Familiar with the Public Health System
