Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Cape TownFull job descriptionREPORTS TO: Geotechnics & Tunnels Lead AfricaPRIMARY POSITION PURPOSEFollowing our continued growth and success wining and positioning ourselves to deliver current and future Major Projects, we are currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to work closely with our other specialists in our geotechnics business globally. The role will be based in one of our offices in Cape Town or Pretoria to help deliver major infrastructure projects locally and globally.Ideally with 10+ years of experience, you will play a key role in providing geotechnical input at the investigations, design and construction stages and effective project management skills. You will also support the ongoing activities of large multidisciplinary projects such as underground tunnels, caverns, dams, road & bridge design and construction, as well as smaller assignments such as the provision of geotechnical advice to local governments, contractors and private clients.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESBuilding SMEC's reputation locally, nationally and internationally as a leading consultant with a strong reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project deliveryHelp building strong and sustainable relationships with existing or new clientsApply project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely mannerProvide expert advice and demonstrate advanced technical skills, ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMECDemonstrate high level project management skills while accomplishing project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely mannerSignificant active contribution to the commercial success of projects and the team and contributing to successful business developmentProvide high level geotechnical investigations, analysis and design to clientsLead and mentor junior engineers across the teamRECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEDegree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology (Masters or PHD preferred)10+ years experience working as a Geotechnical Engineer preferably with an engineering consultancy.Significant and demonstrable experience delivering detailed design/modelling, proof engineering, and site investigation works across civil infrastructure projects dams, hydropower, roads, railways, energy and water.PR.
