Certified by the Top Employer Institute 2024.Role Purpose/Business Unit:To engineer, design, architect, evolve and form a technology and operational strategy for the core voice, data and infrastructure division.Your responsibilities will include:

• These responsibilities include research, selection, testing, implementation and integration of new Network Core Equipment for technologies including GSM (Voice Services), GPRS, UMTS, Wimax, Wifi, LTE, Video, Telco over cloud, Devops, Devsecops, Machine learning and AI.
• Predominant focus will be in the detail network strategy including architecture design, planning, optimization, implementation and automation of Vodacom's Core Services.
• Manage the technical design, testing and implementation of new core-based products and services such as Video
• Manage technology research, design and testing of new concepts and trials.
• Develop and strategize around new features sets, technology enablers on core.
• Co-ordinate and lead technical projects within core voice and data
• Co-ordinate and maintain technical network architecture diagrams
• Evaluate system architecture and recommend system improvements to other engineering departments and suppliers
• Provide a technical consultancy service and high-level support to internal teams such as Network Management Group, Billing Services Group and Engineering divisions.
• Manage vendor technical relationships with the respective vendors and divisions
• Technical reporting to Vodafone
• Guide and train other team members on new technologies

The Ideal Candidate for this role will have:Must have technical / professional qualifications and experience:

• Matric (Essential)
• A 3-year degree/diploma in Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical or equivalent qualification. (Essential)
• A 3 year Masters in digital will be a added advantage.
• 5yrs relevant experience (specify if possible), inclusive of 2yr technical leadership experience
• A Minimum of 10 years experience in a Telecommunications. (Essential)
• At least 10 years' experience in the cellular industry with specific experience in Core Networks (Essential)
• At least 3 years' experience of GSM, GPRS/UMTS/LTE/5G and Telco over cloude principles and protocols (Essential).
• A good E2E knowledge of RAN, TX and IP will be an added advantage.

• GSM/GPRS/UMTS/LTE protocols and SS#7 and other IP Protocols
• Telecommunication Industry and current government telecomm legislation as well as developments within ETSI/3GPP and ITU-T
