Reference Number: FBS/005/2024SANBI offers basic annual salary of R376 413.00The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide a scientific and technical support service in Herbarium practices and functioning related to scientific and physical curation, scientific services and management of scientific resources according to the standards and procedures for the SANBI Biodiversity CollectionsThis position requires a degree in Botany, Life Sciences, Ecology or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. A relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position requires 4 years of work experience in the relevant field.The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Working experience in Scientific Herbarium Curation Techniques and Specimen Database Operation of which 1 year experience in coordination of scientific curation processes is essential; Implementation of Curation Plans in the herbarium; Scientific curation incorporation of revisions and maintenance of specimen collections; Data curation - verification and maintenance of specimen information records in the BRAHMS database; Quality control of specimen records; Contributing to Mass Digitization project activities; Scientific support services information queries and plant identifications; Knowledge generation - Compilation of scientific information and research activities; Coordination of curation activities; Reviewing and contributing to curation policies and procedures. Advanced planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook). The possession of a valid drivers licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.Key Performance Responsibilities include:

• Render scientific and data curation of specimens in the herbarium;
• Provide scientific information and plant identification services;
• Contribute to digitisation of specimens in the herbarium;
• Coordinate and conduct scientific curation processes;
• Contribute to knowledge generation projects in the herbarium; and
• Provide mentoring and training to staff and interns in the herbarium.
