Weve spent the last century using innovation to create real competitive advantage for our partners, our communities and our business.Build your career with us!PURPOSE OF THE POSITIONManage and co-ordinate technical activities within the Engineering Group, while evaluating process feasibility hazop, environmental impact, economic and value evaluation studies.SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

  • Work with Head of Refinery and Process Engineers to develop functional strategy that covers all strategic themes.
  • Identify and drive projects that will aid the Refinerys variable and fixed cost reduction strategy.
  • Develop models for data collection, profitability models, complete business cases and trade-off study documents for information sharing with the Exco, Senior Management, Junior and Leadership Forums.
  • Collaborate with Evaluation and Process Engineers in order to evaluate sampling and processing capability for current and future feed materials.
  • Manage the improvement of projects.
  • Track and communicate cost reduction initiatives to the Refinery Manager.
  • Assist in the development of the Refinery operational and capital budget.
  • Support the Refinery Operations Manager in evaluating and interpreting the technical performance of the Refinery and Service Yard, to initiate and improve the Refinery Operations safety, quality and cost performance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A completed Matric qualification.
  • A Degree in Chemical/ Metallurgical Engineering - Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science qualifications would serve as an advantage.
  • Professional registration with the ECSA would serve as an advantage.
  • Must have at least acquired 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must have served for at least 5 years in a management position with focus on Metallurgical Project execution, as a Project/ Process or Metallurgical Engineer
SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES
  • Computer skills proficiency - Microsoft applications (Excel and Projects), Windows Tools and SAP.
  • Be familiar with the SAP system - assist in Metallurgical Accounting and ensure that processes are rigorously followed.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral) - the ability to explain technical, financial/ statistical information and instructions to Associates.
  • Report writing skills - able to produce reports that are timely, accurate, succinct and relevant.
  • Negotiating skills - able to firmly but fairly negotiate with suppliers and customers at all levels, both locally and internationally.
  • Management skills - the proficient use of resources and be able to act independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshooting skills - able to diagnose and analyse process problems in plants, including sampling and assaying. Be familiar with materials processing.
  • Experienced in the development and evaluation of Process & Instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, process control philosophy and equipment data sheets.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Risk management knowledge - able to identify, manage and mitigate risks at source of the material and supply chain. Contribute to changing and updating Refinery as per strategy movement and direction.
  • Industry knowledge - good understanding of the minerals, chemical, recycling and precious metals industry. Be familiar with technologies and process used for materials treatment.
  • Process plant knowledge - good knowledge of processing plants, equipment, sampling and assaying. Familiarity with different materials processing and understand chemistry of materials and ease of processing.
  • Project management knowledge - assist Refinery Operations Manager to write compelling business cases and work with all Process Engineers to ensure process improvement projects are adhered to. Represent the Refinery in technical projects and ensure that risks pertaining to projects are addressed from production perspective.
