I&J is proudly South African and invests in, and empowers, the communities in which it operates.An exciting opportunity exists for a Procurement Specialist at I&J Head Office, Cape Town. The Procurement Specialist is responsible for reducing the Total Cost of Ownership on the Capex, MRO and other spend categories across I&J. This includes ensuring continuity of supply and on-time delivery of Capex projects, preparing proposals and negotiating purchase terms and conditions for supply and service level agreements to be drafted by I&J Legal. This person will be required to deploy advanced procurement processes, techniques and methodologies to optimise supplier, equipment and product performance across this spend category to contribute significant and sustainable shareholder value.Line Manager: Head of Supply Chain

Sourcing Strategy Development:

  • Leads the development and implementation of sourcing strategies and projects across the spend category, through liaison and collaboration with the Operations Team and the formation of cross-functional sourcing teams.
  • Exhibits subject matter expertise regarding trends across the spend category so as to advise internal users on current and future market opportunities, and to implement proactive strategies to take advantage of such opportunities.
Spend Analysis:
  • Continuous spend analysis across the spend portfolio with the aim of identifying, scoping and validating projects that will result in measurable value to the organisation.
  • Prioritising procurement involvement based on magnitude of spend, strategic importance and opportunities for value delivery.
TCO Reduction:
  • Is responsible for delivering and tracking quantifiable financial benefits through the reduction of the Total Cost of Ownership and ensuring they are delivered onto the bottom-line.
  • Provides leadership to cross-functional sourcing teams in the deployment of strategic procurement levers and techniques on assigned commodities and projects within the spend category, which includes leading key RFx processes.
Central Point of Contact between Procurement and the Operations:
  • Acts as the central point of contact between Procurement and the Operations Team for all communications related to the spend category.
  • Includes the communication of standard processes, best practices, progress reporting and issue resolution.
Supplier Management:
  • Fosters and manages key supplier relationships to create short- and long-term value for the I&J business units.
  • Leads all efforts in educating the appropriate suppliers and internal stakeholders in the principles of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM).
Supplier Negotiation and Contracting:
  • Prepares for and leads key supplier negotiations.
  • Supports the drafting of supply and service level agreements by I&J Legal.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years procurement experience, of which at least 5 years must have been within a specialist role especially in Tenders (Requests for proposals) and execution thereof
  • Experience and industry knowledge in Capex and MRO is essential
  • Prior exposure to category/commodity management, procurement or an engineering or production environment is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated success in managing a multi-disciplinary team in a project-type environment will be advantageous
  • Prior experience in negotiating purchase terms and conditions
Qualifications:
  • Tertiary Qualification within Procurement, Business, Finance or Engineering field
  • CIPS certification will be advantageous
