Job Description


Purpose of the job The Procurement Specialist is responsible for developing and executing a procurement strategy that supports the organization's operational and financial goals. The role focuses on achieving cost efficiency, supplier performance, and risk mitigation while transitioning from transactional procurement to strategic sourcing practices. This includes managing the procurement of goods, materials, components, and services in compliance with the companys policies and industry standards. Main tasks and responsibilities Develop and manage procurement strategies for key spend categories to optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Build, maintain, and enhance relationships with key suppliers to ensure alignment with company objectives, performance improvement, and innovation. Analyze procurement data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, enabling the development of effective cost-saving strategies. Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers while conducting regular performance reviews for existing suppliers. Assess and mitigate risks associated with suppliers, including financial stability, delivery performance, and compliance with quality standards. Continuously monitor market trends, commodity prices, and competitor strategies to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate risks. Lead high-level negotiations to secure favorable terms and conditions, focusing on cost, quality, and lead time. Draft, review, and manage contracts to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including B-BBEE and the companys Delegation of Authority. Streamline and standardize procurement processes to improve efficiency and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from issuing Request for Quotations (RFQs) to converting Purchase Requisitions (PRs) into Purchase Orders (POs) in a timely manner. Regularly review and report on open purchase orders to ensure timely delivery and mitigate delays. Develop and execute cost-reduction initiatives in line with departmental savings targets. Track and report on procurement performance metrics, including cost savings, supplier performance, and compliance rates.
Qualifications/Experience and Knowledge Required National Diploma or Higher Certificate in Procurement, Logistics or Supply Chain management Certificate (NQF6), Diploma or Degree. CIPS Qualification will be an advantage. 5+ Years experience as a buyer or procurement position. Relevant manufacturing or Engineering Knowledge
