Job Description


PRODUCTION ENGINEERLocation: DurbanOur client is looking for a Production Engineer to join their team.They will be responsible for implementing production processes, driving productivity improvements, and optimising manufacturing efficiency. They will manage KPIs, oversee project phases, and ensure quality, safety, and cost reductions.Responsibilities:Process Optimisation & Efficiency

  • Optimise manufacturing processes to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient production through standardised work methods and clear documentation.
  • Reduce variability by implementing standard work procedures and best practices.
  • Improve workflow efficiency by analysing space, equipment layout, and eliminating waste.
  • Design and implement cost-effective systems, processes, and facility layouts for optimal production.
  • Oversee machinery and equipment installation, ensuring proper functionality.
Production Performance & Quality Improvement
  • Analyse production performance, including safety, quality, and efficiency, and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), process documentation, and continuous improvements.
  • Develop and maintain value stream mapping and process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform time studies, capacity assessments, and workforce planning.
  • Implement error-proofing (Poka Yoke) to minimise defects.
  • Diagnose production line issues, provide solutions, and conduct training.
  • Drive continuous improvement through problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure all product and system requirements are met from conception to final production.
  • Conduct trials and document findings for process validation.
New Product Development & Integration
  • Identify manufacturing needs for new product development and integrate them into operations.
  • Ensure seamless integration of new products into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate pre-launch production trial runs and process monitoring.
  • Lead technical investigations, supported by data analysis and engineering reports.
Collaboration & Cross-Department Coordination
  • Liaise with Engineers, production teams, and other departments to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve labor utilisation.
  • Work closely with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Tooling teams to resolve customer concerns.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and service providers for seamless operations.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols to prioritise worker well-being.
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations and company safety policies.
  • Report unsafe equipment and ensure the use of PPE at all times.
  • Maintain accurate, professional documentation and administrative records.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support customer complaint resolution and quality assurance efforts.
  • Manage and control costs in line with the departmental budget.
Training & Leadership
  • Support and lead process improvement activities and train Process Technicians.
  • Provide technical support for production challenges and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Lead and mentor Process Technicians and Trainee Engineers.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
Project & KPI Management
  • Manage special projects within budget and track progress for reporting.
  • Prepare and present project reports, updates, and customer communications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on key performance areas (KPAs).
  • Plan and track projects or sub-tasks and present progress updates.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification: Engineering.
  • Process Engineering experience.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D parametric CAD software.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specification.
  • Knowledge of Core Tools (APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, Measurement System and SPC).
  • IATF16949 understanding.
  • 8D problem solving skills.
  • Interpretation of external quality standards.
  • Technical knowledge and report writing.
  • Understanding of the principles of Tool, Jig & Die Making.
