Job Description


PRODUCTION FOREMANLocation: DurbanOur client is looking for a Production Foreman to join their team.They will be responsible for managing production performance, personnel, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards across multiple teams. They will monitor manufacturing operations and ensure targets for key production KPIs (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and Cost) are met. They will investigate and report on underperformance, implementing corrective actions, as well as oversee process implementation, monitoring, and auditing to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for meeting operational KPIs set by the Production Manager.
  • Drive QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) initiatives by setting targets, implementing plans, tracking daily results, and adjusting resource planning.
  • Ensure that the production plan is followed at all times.
  • Control and update Visual Management Boards in assigned areas.
  • Ensure compliance with standardised work methods and adherence to company procedures.
  • Monitor and control critical/risk issues such as risk stock levels and potential SSNs (Safety Stock Numbers).
  • Ensure adherence to policies at all times.
  • Manage team performance by identifying challenges, defining areas for improvement, and leading problem-solving groups.
  • Develop team members by ensuring proper staffing, onboarding new employees, fostering individual development plans, and arranging appropriate training.
  • Track and train employees to ensure qualifications align with assigned positions.
  • Conduct training, development, appraisals, and mentorship programs for subordinates.
  • Promote good employee relations and handle daily industrial relations issues.
  • Conduct and complete back-to-work interviews for all returning employees.
  • Address time and attendance issues, ensuring compliance with work schedules.
  • Take appropriate disciplinary action when time and attendance standards are not met.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Lead and implement improvements in areas where quality standards are not met.
  • Audit compliance with 5S and housekeeping standards, ensuring corrective actions are implemented on time.
  • Ensure regular team meetings to discuss KPI performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all daily checks are completed and that tool and machine maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with the First Off, Last Off, and patrol inspection procedures.
  • Ensure proper handling of non-conforming products and adherence to corrective action procedures.
  • Attend quality and scrap meetings, addressing defects and ensuring corrective actions.
  • Deal directly with other department Foremen for shop floor problems, including tool/machine breakdowns and quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and the OHS Act.
  • Ensure PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) standards are met in all areas of responsibility.
  • Report and address all unsafe equipment and conditions.
  • Monitor and control the usage of PPE and consumables to prevent wastage.
  • Ensure working conditions comply with HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards, intervening when safety risks arise.
  • Drive improvements in workplace ergonomics and employee safety conditions.
  • Ensure budget adherence and implement cost-saving measures where relevant.
  • Track and manage operational costs, identifying opportunities for savings.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all KPAs (Key Performance Areas).
  • Attend daily Operations Meetings and report to Management on department performance.
  • Conduct weekly departmental meetings with Team Leaders.
Requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Previous experience as a Production Foreman in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Planning, organising and controlling skills.
  • Knowledge and application of problem-solving best practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements and systems.
  • IR Knowledge (counselling, absenteeism management, discipline, and performance management).
  • Ability to gather, analyse data and to work with the figures.
  • Project management experience.
