Location: Constantiaberg, Southern Suburbs, Western Cape
Start date: 1 November 2024
Salary: Locum Rates are applicable for the duration of the 4-months.My client, Private Hospital, is looking to employ a Pediatric Professional Nurse for 4-months who specializes in providing medical care to infants, children, and adolescents. Their roles and responsibilities involve a range of clinical and non-clinical duties aimed at ensuring the well-being of pediatric patients. These include:1. Clinical Care and Monitoring:

• Assessing the health status of pediatric patients, including conducting physical examinations and taking vital signs.
• Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by a pediatrician or healthcare provider.
• Monitoring patients for any changes in health status and reporting significant findings to the healthcare team.
• Assisting with diagnostic tests and interpreting laboratory results to guide care.

2. Health Education and Family Support:

• Educating parents and caregivers about their child's health, treatment plans, and proper care at home.
• Providing support to families, addressing concerns, and offering resources related to pediatric health.
• Guiding families through developmental milestones and offering advice on nutrition, growth, and developmental activities.

3. Care Coordination:

• Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, nutritionists, physical therapists, and social workers, to develop and implement care plans.
• Coordinating patient care across various settings, such as hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and community health centers.
• Ensuring continuity of care by following up with families and other healthcare providers after discharge.

4. Documentation and Record-Keeping:

• Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge instructions.
• Ensuring that documentation complies with legal, ethical, and organizational standards.

5. Developmental Care and Play Therapy:

• Providing age-appropriate developmental care, including play therapy, to help children cope with illness and hospitalization.
• Using toys, games, and storytelling to engage children and reduce anxiety or fear related to medical procedures.

6. Emergency and Critical Care:

• Responding to pediatric emergencies, performing CPR, and managing acute illnesses or injuries in the emergency room or intensive care units.
• Stabilizing critically ill patients and providing life-saving interventions as necessary.

7. Infection Control and Safety:

• Implementing infection prevention and control measures to protect pediatric patients, who are often more susceptible to infections.
• Ensuring a safe and child-friendly environment in healthcare settings, adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.

8. Professional Development and Research:

• Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in pediatric nursing through continuing education, seminars, and professional training.
• Participating in research projects and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing pediatric care.

9. Ethical and Cultural Competency:

• Respecting the cultural, spiritual, and personal beliefs of pediatric patients and their families.
• Ensuring that care is delivered with empathy, compassion, and adherence to ethical guidelines specific to pediatric nursing.

Education:Diploma or Degree in Nursing
SANC registered as a Professional Nurse
