Job Description


Main purpose of the job:

  • To assist in coordinating and evaluation of recruited participants assist other nurses in their daily work ensuring GCP and Protocol adherence
Location:
  • PHRU - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto
Key performance areas:
  • Ensure that screening, consenting and enrolment of participants take place in line with project protocol
  • To conduct study related duties as specified by protocol.
  • Check vital signs on eligible participants when required
  • Record vital signs and observations of participant in the source document/Case Referral Form for each visiting participant when required
  • Assess and recognise respiratory illnesses in participants
  • Ensure that all participants and care givers/parents have signed informed consent forms
  • Conduct Phlebotomy according to protocol
  • Collect Study Specimens as per protocol
  • Collect study medication from pharmacy, administer and provide participant education per protocol
  • Call participants who are eligible for enrolment/have abnormal test result and arrange study visits
  • Carry out prescribed orders to ensure optimal quality care as needed. This may include escorting participants during external case referrals
  • Educate participants with regard to project aims and information
  • Conduct both physical and clinical observations for participants during each study visit per protocol
  • Consult with study doctor/coordinator if and when necessary to promote holistic care
  • Complete source documentation at the time of participant visit for each participant visit
  • Track all lost to follow ups participants by means of post, telephone or home visit
  • Conduct home visits if required
  • Enter data daily in a timely manner on the required system as dictated by the standard operating procedures
  • Ensure that completed Source Data is captured on CRF and document/s is filed as needed in participant files on a daily basis
  • Enter queries and resolutions on the system after discussing with Project Head and Study coordinator
  • Log any lab results onto the system once in receipt thereof on study specific system/file on a daily basis.
  • Petty Cash management as per internal policy and obtaining signatures for requisition forms
  • Maintain study source document files including logbooks, tracking logs and reimbursement files
  • Assist with ordering stationery/stock for project in line with the projects procurement process on at least a monthly basis
  • Assist with maintenance/replenishing of stock, sharps and biohazardous box
  • Provide verbal education of participants as required depending on the case
  • Provide coaching to colleagues that arent clinicians
  • Assist and manage subordinate staff in the absence of study coordinator
  • Assist across projects as and when needed
  • Attend and resolve queries that are generated by the data management staff
  • General filing and Administration
  • Compile study progress reports on number of participants enrolled and activities performed
  • Establish a working relationship with clinic nurses/staff
  • Ensure that all participants, parents/caregivers have signed informed consent forms
  • Communicate routinely as needed to the study coordinator and Principal investigator regarding clinical management of subjects
Required minimum education and training:
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing
  • Qualified as a Professional Nurse
  • Valid Drivers License with PDP
Required minimum work experience:
  • 2 years post Nursing qualification experience
  • 2 years research experience
  • Phlebotomy
Professional body registration:
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
  • Good Clinical Practice/Human Subject Protection certificate advantageous
  • Must be able to drive
  • Ability to lead and work independently as well as be part of multidisciplinary team
  • Flexible to adopt to changes in the study requirements
  • Empathetic towards people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Ability to speak local languages
  • Computer literate
  • Wiling to learn
