To provide clinical expertise in support of clinical research activities, including recruiting and screening participants in research studies according to the study protocol and providing clinical insight and support to the local investigator and study management
Location:
Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, Umtata (Mthatha) - Eastern Cape
Key performance areas:Recruitment & Retention
Screening of participants and consenting of participants mothers
Establish a relationship of trust and respect with the participants mothers and the participants
Enrolment Procedures
Perform study-related procedures including but not limited to blood draws, vaginal and rectal swabs, and nasopharyngeal aspirates/swabs on infants and young children
Store swabs and blood samples and facilitate the shipment of samples to the Johannesburg[1]based laboratory
Collect isolates from the local NHLS laboratory
Carry out verbal interviews with the mothers or legally acceptable representatives of participants according to SOPs
Carry out follow-up interviews with the mothers of the participants
Quality Control
Perform quality assurance of study file source data, i.e. clinical source notes and CRFs to ensure the forms are completed correctly
Perform internal quality control checks and data verification of completed forms
Verification of logs
Ensure data management queries are attended to
Administration
Direct electronic data capture of all relevant CRFs of the study
Accurately abstract information from the clinical notes
Make sure that all the NHLS results have been received and captured in the database
Monitor stock and assist the research administrator with the procurement of consumables
In-hospital follow-up of participants and completion of discharge outcomes
Prepare daily and weekly statistics for the site
Present daily and weekly statistics to the principal investigator and senior study personnel as and when required
Customer Service
Communicate with external stakeholders around compliance issues as and when required
Ensure all customer interaction (Both internal and external customers) is of the highest professional level, E.g. Respond to emails/queries within two days
Act in a professional and friendly manner in all dealings with internal stakeholders
Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional

Required minimum education and training:
Degree or Diploma in Nursing
At least 2 years experience in Pediatrics and/or Neonates
Currently registered as a Professional Nurse
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in a research environment
Advantageous:
REDCap Training
Good Clinical Practice Certificate (GCP)
Any qualification in Business, Business Administration or Biological Sciences
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
Clinical research experience
Good Clinical Practice
Excellent clinical skills
Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel
Good interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team
