Cape Town - Western CapeProfessional Officer Environmental ManagementPlease note that with this post it is key that you read the entire job scope below.We are looking for a meticulous and organized individual, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the an Environmental Compliance team, which is involved in significant litigation and environmental risk management. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing legal documentation, conducting research, and providing essential administrative support.Key Skills & ExperienceTo excel in this role, you will need:

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities: Efficiently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional written skills: Clearly articulate complex legal and administrative information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Demonstrate advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Meticulous attention to detail: Ensure accuracy in all work products.
  • Legal research and analysis skills: Conduct thorough research and summarize findings effectively (you will occasionally be required to go through extensive legal documentation).
  • Adaptability and flexibility: Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Strong administrative skills with a keen interest in legal and environmental issues.
  • Prior legal experience is highly beneficial.
  • Exceptional written communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with legal documentation, correspondence, and administrative processes.
  • Competence in the principles of administrative justice and environmental law.
  • Be able to work independently, within a team and under pressure.
  • Computer literacy and proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in the regulation, administration, compliance assurance and enforcement of relevant laws
Candidate with a strong foundations in administration and a keen interest in the legal field. While previous legal experience is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite while still considering the department being niche which ads a layer where certain exposure in legal or environmental compliance would go a long way, so once again a genuine interest in environmental legal compliance and administration would be highly advantageous.ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include:
  • Legal Documentation Management: Draft, review, and finalize a variety of legal documents, including contracts, correspondence, and reports.
  • Administrative Support: Provide comprehensive administrative support to the legal team, such as maintaining accurate records.
  • Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis under the guidance of legal professionals.
  • Compliance Support: Assist in monitoring compliance with environmental regulations and preparing related reports and documentation.
  • Litigation Support: Contribute to litigation processes by organizing documents and providing administrative assistance.
  • Document Management: Maintain efficient document control systems and ensure secure storage of sensitive information.
Extended Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft and edit legal documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Provide general administrative support, including scheduling, data management, and correspondence.
  • Assist with legal research and preparation of litigation documentation.
  • Manage and track administrative processes.
  • Draft formal correspondence.
  • Review submissions, contracts, MoUs, and MoAs for legal compliance.
  • Assist with minute-taking, agendas, and logistics for meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualification: A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification preferably a B- Degree in Enviromental law (LLB advantageous) including environmental law and / or administrative law.
