The Faculty comprises nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy, and a number of world-class research institutes and Centres. The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy.The Department of Medical Biosciences is comprised of the three inter-related disciplines of Physiology, Anatomy and Medical Microbiology. Housed within the Faculty of Science, the Department offers service courses to the Faculties of Dentistry, Community and Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy at the undergraduate level and across Faculties at the postgraduate level.The successful candidate for Professor/Associate Professor in the Physiology will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Physiology
  • Conduct research and publish in the field Physiology
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
  • Provide academic leadership
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach.
  • Joining and/or driving the research vision of the Department through an active research programme including an ability to raise research funding and supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral students.
  • Play a role in the administrative activities of the Department, Faculty and the university.
  • Fulfil any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department
Minimum RequirementsMinimum Requirement - Professor:
  • PhD or equivalent, in the field of Physiology
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, in the field of Physiology (including gross anatomy, histology, embryology)
  • A record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of Physiology
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline.
  • Experience in generating research grants
Minimum Requirements - Associate Professor:
  • PhD or equivalent, in the field of Physiology
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, preferably in the field of Physiology (including gross anatomy, histology, embryology)
  • A record of quality peer reviewed publications, in the field of Physiology
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and preferably an international presence in his/her discipline.
