  • Manage the curriculum of the BAcc, PG Dip in Chartered Accountancy and BAccHons [i.e. the CA programme] to align with the competency requirements of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and the expectations of employers.
  • Provide general leadership in the effective offering of the CA programme, including the monitoring of throughput rates and coordinating the implementation of remedial actions.
  • Ensure academic coherence and coordination of the various modules comprising the CA programme (horizontal and vertical coordination).
  • Coordinate with the Programme Director: General Accountancy, where the BAcc programme overlaps with the BCom(Acc) programme, to ensure the effective delivery of the CA undergraduate program.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments that provide service modules on the CA programme.
  • Ensure that the CA programme is offered in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
  • Serve as a management committee member of the School of Accountancy and deputise for the Director: School of Accountancy when required.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings called by the Vice-Dean: Learning & Teaching / responsible HOD / Faculty Manager relating to effective programme management / marketing.
  • Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the CA programme.
  • Collate and provide information, as required, for the ongoing monitoring of the CA programme by SAICA and coordinate the monitoring visits undertaken by this body.
  • Implement applicable quality management policies and regulations of the University.
  • Build/manage relationships with SAICA.
  • Build/manage relationships with the employers of graduates of the CA programme.
  • Contribute to the marketing of the CA programme to prospective students, including providing content input to the programme brochures and EMS / UFS social media, and participating in open days and other UFS-related marketing initiatives.
  • Promote career and professional registration opportunities to current students.
  • Provide academic advice to current students registered for and prospective students considering the CA programme.
  • Assume responsibility for admissions to the BAccHons and PGDip (CA) programmes.
  • Manage the process of students registering for the CA programme.
  • Take responsibility for amendments to rule books, timetables, etc.
  • Serve as the School of Accountancys representative on the Faculty of EMSs Readmission Appeals Committee.
  • Implement applicable policy and regulatory requirements of the University as it pertains to academic advice and registrations.
  • Provide academic leadership to ensure the effective functioning of the Thuthuka bursary and wrap-around support programme.
  • Assume responsibility for the financial management (annual budgeting, financial planning, allocation of funds, and financial control), and deployment of the resources needed for maximum benefit to the delivery of the Thuthuka bursary programme.
  • Attend meetings with SAICA / the Thuthuka Education Upliftment Fund as a representative of the University of the Free State.
Inherent requirements:
  • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the School of Accountancy at the University of the Free State (UFS)
  • A Chartered Accountant (SA)

  • Contributed to educational / technical activities of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants.
