Job Description


Finsch Diamond Mine is located in the town of Lime Acres, which is situated 160km north-west of Kimberley and 109km south of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.Role Description: Reporting to the Manager: Projects, the role will be responsible to ensure that costing transactions, cost model and reconciliations are accurate and timely and all set targets for a capital project (i.e. expansion projects).RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyse, control and manage information of the projects work in progress against a Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Accurately calculate Zero-based costing for the projects from the compiled bill of quantities and drawings to ensure that inefficiencies can be highlighted, project cost is controlled, and that accurate plans are submitted to substantiate the budgeted submitted.
  • Utilize work break down structures, project breakdown structures, evaluation of schedules and utilization of critical path method to ensure cost control on the projects.
  • Analyse, control and manage information by using appropriate accounting techniques and systems, to maximise efficiency of the project strategy with respect to cost, time and contingency and to determine and recommend various alternatives to ensure viability and profitability for current and future scenarios.
  • Monitor the project through the various phases of the project lifecycle by taking ownership to dive deep into the variance analysis and determine reasons for over and under projected costs by regular communication and interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Drive efforts to improve cost efficiency of capital expenditure, driving cost saving initiatives, ensure standard and automated transaction processing and drive performance excellence across the function.
  • Ensure governance is met for project expenditure through modern flow.
  • Review and adjust schedules and plans as required and determine the impact that this have on the cost of the project and review and adjust project forecast as and when the project schedule is impacted, to ensure that there is a 3-year rolling forecast for capital expenditure with reference to approved budgets, authorised deviations thereto, and analysing and reporting on variances.
  • Comparison and review of actual project expenditure with budget and/ or forecast; analysis and interpretation of variances to ensure that the budgets/ expenditure and forecasts are aligned with the organizations overall strategy.
  • Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Capital expenditure reporting, analysis and review of results, to report on but not limited to project status, relevant project information, trends, forecasts, cash flows, contingency, risks and opportunities, as per agreed timelines to various stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to legislative and corporate governance compliance requirements to manage risk and consequences on non-compliance.
  • Provide necessary advice to the project team that will ensure finance processes are understood, valued and adhered to, and to constantly drive initiatives to improve accounting practices and procedures.
  • Ensure that all Operations Finance reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.
  • Work with the finance and operations team to ensure that all captured transactions are allocated to the correct projects and prepare the monthly cost accounts, and that all cost is correctly allocated, monitored and compared against business plans and budgets.
  • Oversee placement of orders, to ensure orders placed is in line with BOM of the project, and that critical items with long lead times are ordered on time to ensure minimal delays in the execution of the project.
  • Ensure management of contractors according to the contract: On a monthly basis ensure that the projects where contractors are paid, that the items that gets invoiced is in line with the contract and that there is no miss management of the contact i.e. materials gets "deducted" from the contract value that do not form part of the contract, and that these items gets send to Tender board and that all governance processes are followed. Support any necessary Commercial decision making.
  • Participate and involvement within the project team to progress projects through its different stages by Establish and maintain good working relationships and effective and sound communication system with the organisation finance and project functions, suppliers, external advisors and auditors. Work with the project leadership team to perform scenario analysis and provide data to enable decisions as well as to participate in regular project team meetings across multiple projects.
  • Identifying activities impacting the schedules critical path and facilitating the identification of opportunities to accelerate completion of the work, or measures to avoid potential delays.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Relevant NQF Level 6 or higher qualification in Finance / QS / Engineering.
  • Project Management certificate / diploma.
  • A minimum of 3 years project/ construction environment experience in the mining industry.
  • Accounting systems experience (AccPac and ESSbase or similar).
  • Advanced ability to evaluate project cost.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & MS Projects Advanced).
  • Valid drivers license.
ADVANTAGEOUS REQUIREMENTS:
  • Project Scheduling/ estimating experience (MS Projects/ Candy/ Harddollar/ Assignar/ Mastt/ Aimsio or similar).
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in cash flow management principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in budgeting, forecasting and capital processes, as well as expenditure control against these.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill as a commercially astute, business minded, operationally oriented individual of superior intelligence who is profit driven with bottom line awareness.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial and financial knowledge and understanding of internal financial controls.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in risk management principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill with regards to financial legislative requirements.
