Job Summary
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • BEng/BSc/BTech - Electrical Engineering
  • At least 8 years experience as a Project Engineer
  • Professional registration as a Professional Engineer / Technologist (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of Engineering Software
  • Knowledge of cabling, substation, overhead line and renewable energy technology and construction
  • Knowledge of cable accessories selection and specifications.
DAILY ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:The successful candidates key performance areas and duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • The Interpretation of the customer tender technical specification, the preliminary design and the preparation and costing of the technical portion of bids. Bill of quantity estimation and technical support for tendering.
  • Designs as required by the specific project, including the specification of the required cables and the specification and sourcing of the various components.
  • Advising on and reviewing Construction methods and plans for the project.
  • Advising on and reviewing manpower and equipment plans for the project.
  • Conducting or managing specialist outsourced studies/designs as may be required (e.g. Finite Element Analysis, Transient analysis, consulting services).
  • Project technical issue investigation, analysis and resolution.
  • Support and participate in commissioning activities.
  • Conduct Acceptance Testing with the customer. (Factory, Site and Performance testing).
  • Provide input for technical quality assurance (QCPs, ITPs) and participate in ensuring technical quality is achieved. Provide technical assurance on works executed by subcontractors.
  • Preparation of SLDs, layout and sections for HV electrical systems, i.e. substations, OHL, and HV cables.
  • Participation in marketing activities and customer interfaces as may be required.
  • Participate in Electrical Engineering and Construction industry body activities to promote our company presence in the industry.
  • Ensure compliance to all aspects of SHEQ.
  • Ensure all work carried out complies with the correct standards in terms of accuracy and safety.
  • Responsible for review and quality of all projects technical documentation.
  • Manage and control Engineering changes on the project.
CRITICAL EXPERIENCE:
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Package (MS Projects, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Planning, prioritising and organising
  • Costing
  • Understanding of Technical Contracts
  • Problem solving skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure and extended hours
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to interact with internal and external parties.
  • Good people skills
  • Extended site visits will be required
  • Regular business travel within SA
REMUNERATION:Market-related (dependent on qualifications and experience)
  • R850,000.00 - R1,100,000.00 per annum
