Job Summary Qualifications: i. Bachelors Degree / Diploma in mechanical or process engineering. ii. Pr. Eng. / Pr. Tech would be advantageous. iii. Relevant post graduate qualifications albeit technical, management or business related would be advantageous. b. Experience: i. Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical and piping engineering and package management within the construction and engineering environment. ii. Exposure to process plant design. iii. Experience in contract management, engineering, costing/cost control, HAZOP, SHERQC and multi-disciplinary construction of process plants. c. Knowledge required: i. Development of mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets and design criteria, preferentially in the smelter, material / product handling and utilities / services environments. ii. Development of flow sheets (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), equipment lists and technical descriptions. iii. Proficient in the basic application of fluid dynamics. iv. Basic understanding of project scheduling. v. Strong technical drawing review skills, both 2D and 3D. vi. Industry Codes and Standards for piping design in South Africa and abroad. vii. Pricing, tendering and budgeting principles. viii. Knowledge of Health and Safety rules and regulations (Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Mines Health and Safety Act). d. Skills: i. Multi-discipline interfacing in a project environment. ii. Ability to understand impacts of design on construction activities and actively manage the design to assist and reduce construction costs and timelines. iii. Fundamental understanding of 3D modelling and intelligent P&ID modules, model integration and collaboration, and how these are applied in the Building Information Modelling (BIM) process. iv. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc. v. Ability to interact with design teams remotely, via electronic communication platforms such Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc. vi. Strong 3D and spatial awareness and visualisation abilities. vii. Detailed analytical skills to measure, audit, investigate, solve problems, present ideas and negotiate. viii. Ability to use time productively, maximise efficiency and meet challenging work goals. ix. Analytical thinker with ability to examine issues from multiple viewpoints. x. An ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. xi. Accuracy and attention to detail with emphasis placed on quality. xii. Able to work under minimal supervision. xiii. Exceptional people skills, punctuality and forward planning. xiv. Sound written and verbal communication skills for submission of management reports, planning and progress meetings. xv. Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold the company values. xvi. Willingness to travel locally and abroad. 6. DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES a. Projects i. Performs and manages mechanical & piping engineering projects, which include but are not limited to, engineering calculations, design and analysis, drawing review and strong technical presence during the fabrication and construction phase of a project. ii. Contributes in the project planning and set up to ensure project execution is inclusive of the complete discipline scope of work. iii. Advises on cost estimates for proposals and contracts in conjunction with the Project Director or Project Managers. iv. Prepares and is responsible for the necessary mechanical & piping engineering design and specification and ensures the design is communicated accurately for estimating and project execution. v. Management and distribution of equipment drawings for the project and site activities as required. vi. Provides project teams with the relevant engineering input when required, including assistance with the interpretation of the design drawings and installation of the required equipment. vii. Performs the relevant inspections and witness testing when required on components as required by the Quality Control Plan. viii. Performs field supervision of the relevant construction and commissioning when required. ix. Reports on progress in conjunction with the project team, and takes the necessary remedial action where necessary. x. Ensures project contracts, specifications, standards, lists and bills of quantity meet the project requirements and constantly keeps such documents updated throughout the project. xi. Travels to construction sites to perform inspections to confirm the design is adhered to. b. Cost management and budget control I. Ensure cost control with respect to mechanical & piping design and subcontractor management. II. Actively investigate cost saving opportunities. c. Planning and programming of the project I. Liaise with the project planner to continuously monitor project schedules as well as re-planning to achieve new targets. II. Ensure sub-contractors and fabricators manage and maintain contractual timelines to minimise project delays and ensure successful projects. d. Safety Management I. Ensure designs comply with the relevant legislations and legal requirements. e. Project risk control I. Ensure formal record keeping and implementation of project decision lists. II.
