The Centre for Student Support Services (CSSS) is one of four departments within SDS. The CSSS provides multifaceted, student-centred co-curricular and in-curricular initiatives. All offerings are evidence-based and aim to enhance the quality of life, holistic wellness, experience and success of students. The services and practices are furthermore aimed at igniting agency in students as partners for holistic student success so that they are able to thrive. The Centre is also an accredited HPCSA training site for Intern Counselling Psychologists.The successful incumbent for this position will fulfil the role of Psychologist in Therapeutic Services, one of four Offices within CSSS. Therapeutic Services offers a range of individual and group mental health and counselling support services and awareness programmes to break the stigma of mental health at UWC, enhancing mental health to facilitate student academic functioning, as well as creating opportunities for mental health and wellbeing so that students can succeed academically. Therapeutic Services also partners with key mental health organizations to broaden the reach for students for mental health support.Key Performance Areas will include;

  • Providing an accessible and relevant mental health and psycho-social support service that is articulated to context, to enhance student wellness for optimal academic functioning.
  • Providing individual and/or group counselling, workshops, psychometric assessments and report writing, advocacy and other services related to the enhancement of student mental health.
  • Ability to function in a team and fulfil objectives of the department.
  • Effectively respond to crisis and emergency situations.
  • Record keeping, reporting and statistics.
  • Ability to engage in online mental health provision.
  • Engage in relevant research to assess programme delivery and impact.
  • Ability to develop mental health material for online access.
  • Supervision of interns
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Counselling or Clinical Psychology
  • Registered with the HPCSA as a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a registered Clinical/Counseling Psychologist at the HPCSA
  • Experience in telehealth/online counseling
  • Worked in a range of clinical and psycho-educational modalities and settings
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in psychometric assessment
Advantageous requirements
  • Ability to supervise intern psychologists
  • Training as at least a Level 1 BWRT specialist
  • Higher Education sector experience
