Y Monitor raw materials, in-process production, and finished spice products for compliance with quality standards.
Y Conduct visual, sensory, and physical inspections to ensure product consistency.
Y Ensure packaging and labelling meet specifications.
Compliance & Regulatory Standards:
Ensure adherence to
South African food safety regulations
(e.g., SANS 10049, R638, HACCP, FSSC 22000).
Y Verify that products comply with export and local market standards (if applicable).
Y Ensure the business is always current and relevant to the food safety standards required to manufacture and supply nationally and on an internal level.
Y
Testing & Lab Work:
Y Conduct moisture content, microbial, and chemical testing where required.
Y Maintain records of test results and report deviations.
Process Monitoring:
Y Ensure hygiene and sanitation practices are followed in production areas.
Y Verify that cleaning schedules and procedures are adhered to.
Documentation & Reporting:
Y Maintain accurate records of inspections, quality checks, and deviations.
Y Report non-conformities and assist in corrective action implementation.
Supplier & Raw Material Quality Control:
Y Inspect incoming raw materials (e.g., spices, herbs) for quality and safety.
Y Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues.
Continuous Improvement:
Y Identify areas for process improvement to enhance product quality and efficiency.
Y Assist in staff training on quality and hygiene standards.
Y Update and develop training interventions that are relevant, current and meet the learning outcomes and standards required by the regulatory food safety standards.
Y Conduct routine
GMP audits
to maintain food safety standards
Production Monitoring & Process Control
Develop SOP's for each segment of the business in respect of production/dispatch
Supervise production processes to ensure adherence to
standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Y Monitor
blending, grinding, and packaging
to ensure quality and efficiency.
Y Assist in troubleshooting
production-related quality issues
.
Y Ensure
correct ingredient formulations and measurements
are followed during blending.
Y Work with the production team to minimize
waste and rework
.
Product Recall & Traceability
Y Assist in developing and implementing product recall procedures.
Y Ensure all batch records, traceability documents, and retention samples are
accurately maintained
.
Y Coordinate with production, distribution, and regulatory bodies in case of a
product recall
.
Participate in
mock recalls
to test the efficiency of recall procedures.
Documentation & Reporting
Y Maintain
inspection reports, batch records, non-conformance logs, and corrective action reports
.
Y Report
deviations and assist in implementing corrective and preventive measures
Continuous Improvement & Training
Y Identify areas for
process improvement
to enhance product quality and efficiency.
Y Assist in
staff training
on quality, food safety, hygiene, and production best practices.
Qualifications:
Y
Diploma or Degree
in Food Science, Quality Assurance, Biotechnology, or a related field.
Y HACCP and Food Safety training is advantageous.
Experience:
Y Minimum
1-3 years
experience in a food manufacturing or spice production environment.
Y Experience with
HACCP, ISO 22000, or FSSC 22000
quality management systems.
Skills & Competencies:
Y Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Y Knowledge of
South African food safety laws
and international standards.
Y Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Y Intermediate to advanced computer literacy (MS Excel, Word) for documentation.
