Job Description


QUALITY ENGINEERLocation: DurbanOur manufacturing client is looking for a Quality Engineer to join their team.They will be responsible for monitoring and controlling in-house product quality, developing and implementing quality standards, and ensuring customer requirements are met. They will need to act swiftly on non-conformances, supporting corrective actions to maintain compliance.Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with customers to clarify supplier quality system requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Recommend modifications to part specifications and tolerances for cost-effective production.
  • Provide engineering support to ensure consistent application of quality techniques in operations.
  • Facilitate process changes with relevant stakeholders and monitor industry standard updates.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes adhere to established quality standards and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures in alignment with operational staff.
  • Continuously improve product quality by identifying and addressing capability, tolerance, and material-related issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for quality concerns.
  • Develop and submit PPAP documentation to meet customer requirements.
  • Determine the need for process stability and capability studies, analyse results, and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to optimise measurement systems for new tools and processes.
  • Coordinate and monitor pre-launch production trial runs.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Control Plans.
  • Promote problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Tooling teams to address customer complaints and concerns.
  • Lead PPM improvement initiatives for strategic customers.
  • Maintain a database of customer-specific process requirements and ensure correct documentation is used.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to management monthly.
  • Prepare and present reports to monitor project status and other key issues.
  • Analyse statistical data to identify trends, track performance, and drive improvements.
  • Compile and distribute quality reports, summarising failures, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
  • Work with suppliers to establish and oversee corrective action processes.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and follow up to ensure issue resolution.
  • Define and enforce quality requirements for raw material suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental key performance areas: safety, quality, cost, and training.
  • Adhere to and support auditing management systems, including IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification - Quality or Engineering related.
  • Experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Good problem analysis and solving methods.
  • Experience in the use of SPC and continuous improvement methods.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of customer portals.
  • Able to work to deadlines.
